Question about Electrolux Centralux Vacuum

2 Answers

Have a Centralux Aerus about 5 years old. Don't see a model number. There is suction but beater brush quit working. Was using for a few minutes, shut it off for a few minutes, turned it back on and suction only. Tried the reset button also. Tried the sidekick attachment and it works fine. There was no smell like something was hot. Belt is fine. Are there any fuses or anything else to try? This vacuum cleaner has not really been used that much, it is hard to believe the motor would need replaced already. Where do I locate the model number, it is not on my manual or anywhere I can see. Thanks, sissy

There probably is a loose wire in the handle near the switch or a wire off near the swivel elbow near the vac power head. With the right fastener tool to remove some screws you can fix it yourself

Hi Sissy, check the circuit breaker or the fuse in your home's electrical panel. J.

Why does the suction stop after 10 minutes of use on my Dyson DC43?

Your vacuum may be overheating and shutting off the suction motor. Clean the cyclone assembly and the filters to see if they could be restricting the airflow.

My dyson beater bar is spinning but no longer touches carpet surface to pick up hair or thread .There is still plenty of suction. If I ever so lightly place my hand on the top of the beater brush it works...

Brush rolls wear out and usually need replaced every few years. The DC33 model has a clutch with belts which could also be slipping. I would replace both of them

Electrolux power nozzle quits working after just a few minutes of working. i've cleaned the head, but have to push the restart red button for it to go again for a few minutes

My guess is that hair, threads, and/or similar long fine fibers have gotten wrapped around the ends of the brush near where the bearings are. The PN may need to be disassembled to remove them. Be aware that if the vacuum is less than 5 years old, disassembly by anyone other than an authorized service tech will void the remaining warranty.
My recommendation is to take it to an authorized Aerus Electrolux store and let the tech perform a free service check. He/she can let you know what the problem is and for a nominal charge, probably repair it on the spot.

No suction; beater bar works. Motor does not seem to be running.

This model has a complicated trouble-shooting procedure that needs to be done by an authorized Aerus Electrolux service tech.
This is often caused by a bad relay board or a Triac. However, problems in wiring or swswiches, including the hose wiring.
I stress that this must be done by an authorized Aerus Electrolux service tech.

I have a 20yr old electrolux central vac that the motor just went bad. in wondering whether to replace motor or replace whole unit i have found an electrolux unit and a aerus unit. someone told me elect....

Motor to replace or rebuild:

Depending if your motor just started to get noisy, you can take it to a private vacuum repair shop and most rebuild for around $80 to $100.00. Usually they replace top/bottom bearing and the armature carbon brushes.

If it's loud and vibrating and probably sparking. Do not bother to rebuild, the armature is now probably damaged and not worth the new parts.

Replacing the motor is pretty basic and usually saves you about $150.00. They're pretty simple to release out of the unit and are pretty simple to remove and reinstall.

To find out your replacement motor number you will need to find the stamped model number on the motor itselt. It is a 6-8 digit number. That is the Ametek Motor Model number. Ametek is used in pretty well all central vacuum systems. Motors range from $99 to $239.00

Our vac unit is 1 1/2 yrs old. It will not shut off, I've tryed your problem solver by hitting the unit with a hammer. I'm an electrician I was surprise by this advice but never the less I did it and it...

Your machine is still under warranty if you purchased it new (5 years). Take it to the shop you purchased it from (Aerus Electrolux), or call them for free pick up, and ask them to repair it. The boards do go bad occassionally. It could also be the switch, but can't be sure without taking a look at it and testing it.

The warranty is good only if the vacuum was purchased from an authorized Aerus Electrolux store or representative. Take your copy of the contract in with you.

The suction is quite poor, also definite burning smell after normal use. we only have about 3 years would it be the engine

I would check the drive belts for the beater brush and make sure the beater brush itself is free to move in the holders. Clean the beater brush of all debris and add a bit of WD40 on the two ends between the brush and the holders.
I do not charge for my advice. : )
