Question about Whirlpool GSW9800WH

1 Answer

The washer will not automatically start to wash

The washer will not automatically start to agitate after the water has filled the tub to the desired level. If I smack the top of the washer briskly over the left rear of the lid, it will start. Is it a switch bad, or a connection loose? It is a Whirlpool GSW9800PW1, about 5 years old

Your lid safety switch is about to come apart, remove the top cover after you remove the control panel and you can replace the switch they get old from the hot and steamy water over the years

Is there some way I can trick the switch to see if that is the problem? It must be the "Switch, Lid" on the owners manual. Hope this is it, would be an easy fix.

yes when you remove the control panel there will be a 3 prong connector under the control panel on top of the top cover, either 2 wires will be grey or blk and grey and the 3rd wire is a green or greenstripe ground wire, just bypass the 2 other wires(normally on the outer edges as like wires 1 and 3 together dont worry about the ground wire,if the machine works then for sure its the lid-switch(caution this is line voltage of 120 volts a.c.on these connections so be careful and thank you again

My GE washer G153 was making a loud noise when draining/spinning out. Next load filled up with water and done nothing else. Now machine turns on but will do nothing.

have an electrician check out the agitator control module. This unit controls the agitation action of the machine and gets power when the tub fills to the desired level and switches over.

GE Spacemaker Washer/Dryer. Model # DDPI380GAMWH. Water won't stop filling. It continues to fill during all cycles. Fills during agitation. Agitates inproperly. It agitates in short pulses as water...

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. This sounds like a problem with the water level switch in the washer. It controls the amount of water entering the tub. It is probably defective. You may want tomake sure the switch is getting power first by testing the wires with a voltage meter.

The machine fills and will not start agitating unless the lid is open and closed several times.

The most likely failure is the water level pressure switch or a failed lid switch. If the washer will drain and spin then it's not a failed lid switch. If it will not drain and spin the likely failure is the lid switch.

The water level switch (pressure switch) has 3 wires attached to it, V (violet), P (Pink) and a T (tan) wire. When the tub is empty of water, contact V&P are closed to allow the tub to fill with water. Once the water level reaches the desired setting, contact V&P opens and then contact V&T closes to start the motor agitating. So, with this said if you were to unplug the washer and remove the wires from the water level pressure switch and test to see if terminals V&T is closing by using an ohm meter would indicate if the contact is closed or not.

Kenmore top load washer 29822800 - washer-selector is set on one rinse- when machine starts the agitator starts immediately as water fills - then when machine stops after spin cycle in off position water...

if you are saying that the washer finishes the load of clothes and timer goes to off and water is filling the tub after this then you have a bad water valve on the back of the washer.disconnect the water lines and change out the valve

Agitator starts at begining of cycle before washer is full

Please be carful as running the agitator without enough water will overheat and kick out the motor, however it should be ok when it resets itself.
Yes, the machine should stop agitating when you lift the lid so this too is part of the problem.
After looking at the print I can only suggest that the cam contacts in the timer ( contacts 12 and 14) that start the motor are burned and stuck together.

Wash cycle won't start after the tub fills up with water.

There's no delicate or regular spin or agitation If your washer doesn't spin or agitate on either the delicate or regular cycle, check these:

Selector switch
Clutch assembly
Drive motor
Selector switch If your washer has a selector switch on the control panel, make sure the button for your selection is pressed all the way in, or set properly.

Clutch assembly Many GE®/Hotpoint® washers use a clutch and an automatic shift lever. This assembly is quite complicated. If there's a problem with it, you probably should contact a qualified appliance repair technician.

Drive motor Many washing machines have multiple-speed drive motors. Though it's uncommon, the drive motor may work fine on one speed but not on another. If the drive motor has failed on one speed, you need to replace the entire motor.

1 Answer

Agitator always moving

The inner tub on some machines does rotate very slowly while filling to assist with the even distibution of the load. If the agitator is turning back & forth while in fill mode, you could have a timer or transmission problem. You need a tech.
