Question about Maytag Neptune MDE6700A Electric Dryer

1 Answer

I have a maytag neptune f/l dryer model #MDE6700AYW that displays an error code that looks like a capital E5 without the top horizontal line. when I go into diagnostic mode the most recent error code is a 01. According to the tecnical info. manual it can be rectricted vent, clogged lint screen or the Thermistor resistance. I have cleaned and checked the entire vent system etc. and changed the thermistor but the error code is still showing. I hope you can give me something to go by. Do I need to clear the error code somehow. P.S. this all started when i accidentally bumped into my dryer door transfering clothes from the washer to the dryer.

i have not yet tried testing the different components that you have suggested, due to computer failure that i also had to deal with, but another question is : Is there a reset code for the dryer board or a reset button for the dryer. I just find it unbelievable that this all started because i bumped into my dryer door or is that just a coincidence. i would hate like he.. to cause more problems by tearing more things apart just to test them if there is an easier route like a button or a code. Besides wouldn't a different code show up if it was something other than the items i have already tackled?

It is actually fault code "tS" which indicates that the main electronic control detected a very low thermistor resistance or the thermistor is shorted. It is also supported by the recent error code "01".

Since you have cleaned and checked the entire vent system and changed the thermistor but the error code is still showing, this signifies that the thermistor wire harness is shorted. Check it by measuring the resistance between the wires with a multimeter. Set the multimeter to its lowest scale setting (R X 1). If the wires are indeed shorted, recheck the resistance between the wires at the main electronic control side. Replace the wire harness should it confirm a short circuit condition. Otherwise, check the resistance between Pin #2 and Pin #6 of connector CN6 on the main electronic control. Replace main electronic control board if a short circuit is found between Pin #2 and Pin #6 of connector CN6.

There's definitely no such reset button for the dryer. It can be simple coincidence that the fault code flashed after you bumped into the dryer but the thermistor might have been dislodged causing it to short. A different code would definitely appear if the issue is other than a shorted thermistor. All you can do is follow the troubleshooting guide outlined in the previous post and you should be able to address the problem.

I have Maytag Neptune model MDE6700AYW; the panel LEDs light up as normal, but does not run. Checked and clears int trap, and the exhaust tube (not much in there anyway). I do hear a "click" as if it is about to start, but it does not run, and all lights look normal. I entered Service Mode by pressing Chime and Temp to get diagnostic codes, which show as 10 and 08, but, I can not get into software revision or System Check mode. Any ideas?

The E5 error code is only referenced by a technician. More than likely it refers to a circuit board problem. Only solution is to have it replaced by a technician.

Maytag neptune error message e5

This normally indicates that the thermistor is bad. Try measuring it to prove it is OK. It should be 10K Ohms at room temperature (20C / 68F).
If necessary, replace it then clear the error code.
1. Enter to Service Mode by press CHIME and TEMPERATURE keys for 3 seconds or until 3 beeps are heard.
2. Access Diagnostic Codes by pressing WRINKLE PREVENT. A d will be displayed. Rotate the CYCLE SELECTOR KNOB in either direction to read it.
3. Press SENSOR DRY and TIME keys for 3 seconds to clear it.
4. Power OFF to exit Service Mode
5. Power ON

Check to see if your thermistor is bad by measure the resistance. It should be 10K Ohms at room temperature.
If it's bad, replace it BUT you have to CLEAR to error code.
5. Power ON
Here is a link to the part in case you need it.

Maytag neptune dryer has e5 error code

Hi,
I looked up your model and there is no E5 error code listed in the tech sheet.
Download a copy of your tech sheet here.
files.me.com/appliancejunk/e8bg66
When I search the maytag data base this is the service manual it list for your model number.

If the dryer is running but not heating then the relay on the control, ignitor or thermistor are the most likely causes.

Due to power outage now the Neptune dryer model MDE6700AYW does not work and goes into an error code of t5 and there are keys that need to he pressed in sequence to get this corrected, please let me know...

My book say's you have to be in service mode first.
turn the dryer on, then press chime and temperature keys at the same time for 3 seconds. The diagnostic codes can be accessed by then pressing the wrinkle prevent key. a "d' wil be displayed. you can then turn the knob to see all of the codes that are listed. To clear the codes, press the sensor dry level and time keypads together for 3 seconds while veiwing the list. This cleared all of my codes. Good luck.
