Question about HP Pavilion a430n PC Desktop

2 Answers

Hangs up I was given a "bad" pc as it would start up and work fine for several minutes then reboot. I've dusted it out and ran the "system restore". It restored and appeared to be working fine until I installed an Iomega Zip 250 drive (I still have plenty of disks with files I would like to keep). I installed the drivers for the Zip and restarted the pc. Since I restarted the pc, it seems to "freeze up". I get to the desktop screen and try to click on anything, but only get the hour glass. This morning I got it to actually get a bit further as it did come up to a screen asking if I want to make copies of the system restore program. I can't select anything on this screen as the hour glass is still plaguing me. Any input on what I may do? If I can get it to actually start up properly, I plan to get more memory as it has only the factory installed 512mb. This would be just a spare (#7) in a house with only me and my wife (call me a geek, lol).

I guess the actually issue is that the system does not support the Iomega ..or is already too far damaged by a virus or something ...My advice is to reinstall it ..and use a windows Xp cause with 512 will not run anything else..
another way will be to try and restore it ...Just press the F8 key during start up to bring the boot menu on ...and after that select the safe mode..and get inside...after that either make a system restore again ..or just go to control panel and from add remove programs ..remove anything you aded since the day it worked..I mean any program that may be not supported..
Anyway in the nearby future you will have to reinstall it ..and if you will get it at least 1G of Ram memory more...even of it has a poor cpu like 2000 mhz...it will run even windows7 with no problems ..

This problem sounds like a driver issue. Have you tried booting this pc in safe mode?

Acer aspire x1200 freezing after factory restore

It appears that well bla bla as you say I agree weird stuff I have the same machine in my den. What I did was load Win 7 into it. It may be worth the investment. Also you may want to do a total hard drive wipe before re-installing original software just because you do a restore does not mean that there may be something left behind that could be affecting your computer. Killdisk is freeware I use this software whenever I wipe any drive. That way I know if there are any errors on the drive or bad sectors or whatever may be hanging it up.
I think most folks will agree with me those that have been around know that Vista is quirky to say the least especially if you do not keep up with the latest updates with this software. I personally have never liked Vista some folks swear by it but to me it was just a BETA format for the Win 7 system testing phase. Many computers I have worked on I convince my clients to use Win 7 Ultimate. If you can get a copy of this that would I believe solve the matter. Also download killdisk save your goodies first and try it from there if you can.
Also, you may have a bad or going bad part in your machine as well. Check the dust and clean if necessary and use some new thermos paste also on top of CPU........This may also help I have to do that at least every 6 months with mine they get hot. Maybe someone else has more options. I would at least consider the move forward from Vista to 7 you have the resources for it. John

Hp laptop has blinking red square above touch pad, comp. won't allow for reboot or restoring to factory conditions

If you do an illegal shut down which is power off by holding down the power switch for 8 seconds. The HP computer will then boot with the scandisk program, which will restore your hdd to perfection. Windows XP or later now use 'system restore' to rearrange registry from a previous calender date that the computer used to work perfectly.

Running Restore Plus! with associated HP XPP SP2 CD, runs fine until "Software is being installed for you. The system may reboot automatically. DO NOT TURN OFF POWER TO YOUR COMPUTER DURING THIS PROCESS"...

Hello,

what could make your system hang is your hard disk. If the hard disk has a bad sector, then it will make the system to hang.

Observe the hard disk closely to know if it will bring any crackling sound/noise. This noise or sound indicates that the hard disk is bad.

So while considering other factors, consider your hard disk.

Good luck.

it more than likely has little to do with the operating system. It sounds like a hard drive problem. Are you able to format the harddrive and reinstall?

System Restore

Depending on system restore i.e. are you restoring from a previous driver restore point or a service pack restore point, it can take 20 minutes to 2 hours.

Hi there.
It sounds to me like the machine could be overheating causing the machine to shut down unexpectedly.
Purchase a can of compressed air and give short blasts through the air vents and the CPU fan (located under the laptop), keep on doing this until you have cleared all the dust or any other foreign objects that could have clogged the air vents, as soon as you are happy that all the dust is cleared restart the laptop and it should now stay on for a lot longer, if it does not please feel free to post back.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!
