Hi! Mostly, the cure is putting an overhead roof like covering that protects it from the rain. Hope this helps and have a good one!

If this is a window unit rain will get inside of it no matter what. It can not be covered while running. Also the unit must bet set with a slight pitch angling towards the outside. If the unit sits level in your window it will leak inside your home.

If you are referring about hoe to keep the rain getting inside by the hole that the tube is getting in ...it depends on how is the hole in the window made...If it is bigger than the tube ...and possibly square and not round..than the easy fix is with some Plexiglas ..and some strong adhesive..just cause the plexiglas is kinda plastic and ... can be easily cut in the form of the hole ...and around the tube ...tidest that you can ..and glued directly on the external side..around the tube ...than to make it waterproof ..use a silicon tube ..and fill the edge ...The silicon stuff is the solution in the case that the glass is already tide cut around the tube ...too...just use a transparent silicon spray ..the kind they use in the pluming ..and isolate it well from both sides...it will be kinda esthetically enough too cause there is transparent kind in almost any hardware store..or construction materials store..

you do not specified if the hole in the window is cut to almost fit the tube ..cause in this case all you need is a silicon tube ...and to fill the edge of the glass until you isolate the space between ...this will be the kind used on the plumbing ...

Why do most window air conditioners have vents on top - would not rain get in and ruin something? Should I be concerned?

Thee window air conditioners are designed to keep the rain water on the outside. There are no components that the rain can get to damage anything.

GE air conditioner with air louvers on top of case - problem?

Most fan motors are allergic to water. You should carefully examine the places where rain could go and decide whether GE has sold you a risky situation. After all, they have left it up to you to make the decision.

I wouldn't buy one with openings on the top and I wouldn't keep one after GE has demonstrated that not responding is the kind of help you will receive.
