Question about Toshiba Televison & Video

1 Answer

While moving my Toshiba 42HM66 I dropped it pretty hard. Now tv turns on but is very blurry and looks like the screen is out of center and toward the bottom left. I opened up the case and mirror is ok and the lamp still works. Is there anything I can do to adjust it?

There are many possibilities for blurry/ out of focus picture after dropped accident of tv like light engine got misplaced in tv cabinet or internal system (lenses) of light engine got misaligned and this is serious problem as light engine will be replaced for that reason.
Visual check is needed to determine what kind of damage is occurred and is it fixable. Local tv repair shop will help you to find out damage.
You can download service manual free copy of tv from HERE if that might help you.

Ok. I took everything apart an there is a little cube mirror that was knocked loose. Put it back in place. Now it is center again but very out of focus. To the point you can't read the input box.

    OK, half of problem solved.
Check any lens adjustment near/ around main lens of light engine and try to focus the image coming out from that lens.

The only adjustment I can see is the mirror above the cube that was loose. Could this be it? Or would this just be to align the image?

Only lens adjustment or complete light engine position will focus image on front screen because lens has focal length and mirror job is to just reflect that image to front screen.

I took everything back apart including cover over color wheel. Cleaned everything. Now you can rean menu box, but its still blurry. How can I adjust the lens or light engine? There were three lenses in there but no adjustment to them.

As I explained before, damage can be identified by visual inspection only, there is no particular info about to check this and that if tv dropped.
I gave you principal info now its your expertise to find out what got wrong/ broken/ misaligned to fix it. This is support over internet.

Toshiba 42HM66 42 in. HDTV - I am trying to hook up an antenna to my TV. How do I set the tv to receive the signal

I am not sure. It depends on how you want the unit to work. Basic is to just insert the coax from the antenna and use the menu functions to select the correct configuration on screen.

Toshiba 42HM66 has a whirring noise that stops when power off

this is a bad color wheel, however you cannot just change the color wheel on this set you have to replace the entire light engine.

Have a Toshiba 42hm66 tv. The HDMI port has quit

The best thing to do is to call Toshiba at 1800-631-3811 and see if they could refer a Service Facility to you to check it out. I would guess that that Board that has the HDMI Port on it needs to be replaced but it is not a easy or simple job.
I hope this helps,

Keeps turning off by itself after about 30 minutes

Is your air intake clean or clogged.. Maybe it's overheating causing it to shut off.. Had the same problem didn't replace the bulb but cleaned the intake and it works great again. Worth a try.. Intake is located on the left back pannel of the tv.. outside pannel pops off easly.

RCA 36

I got an RCA 27" TV from someone who had moved it to another room but found it was "blurry" after moving it. I brought it home and tried all the suggestions I had found online but it was still blurry. I looked at the back of the TV and found 2 tiny knobs on the right (from the back view) which I began to fiddle with while looking at the screen. It fixed the blurriness immediately! I now have a beautiful screen.

Blurry tv

Sounds like theres a leaky capacitor in the screen drive circuit. I have seen this problem also be a gassy crt but was able to clean off the grids of the CRT with a crt/rejuvinator. It happens because of low emmissions in the tube and when white is on thats a mix of all the colors, so the tube works harder. I bet when you whatch a movie and the scene changes suddenly to a white or brite scene the pic looks a little washed out. If this is not the case then I aggree with the Pravin and try it on another TV just to be sure .. This is not a repair for a consumer to do, though however it is only a three year old set you stated, so there should be life left in the tube, so im kinda thinking a capacitor is bad. Seek out a yechnician to check this out for you as a TV is not a place to see it you can fix it or to exoeeriment with. Good Luck
