Question about Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens

Open Question

The lens does not focus just keeps rotating-could fungus on the lens be a problem? I've had problem with this specific telephoto lens(EF 75-300 1:4-5.6 II) before and had it cleaned up twice. I have a Canon 1000D digital camera.

SOURCE: transfering my ef lenses to digital cameras

Hi Marc! Almost all EF lenses, including the two you listed will work on the Canon Digital SLRs. On the Digital SLR they will have 1.5x the magnification that they would have on a 35mm camera. Your 28-90 will be like a 42-135mm and the 75-300 would be like a 112-450mm. This is because the image sensor on the Digital SLR is smaller than a 35mm negative.

Get the Canon EF 70-300mm IS USM about $500 and EFS 17-85mm IS USM about $300. The 75-300 all of them I would not use them 4 a body cap. Camera is fine or step up to XSI.

SOURCE: ol filme camera lenes fit mycanon ef-s digital eos

Hello,

are your old film lenses FD or EF mounts ?
(Is the old film camera a Canon ?)

EF will fit EFS fine. My expeariance is with the EOS 3000 EF film camera (2002 -etc) and these work fine.

If you have Canon FD, there are some lens converters out there however I have not seen any yet which electrically connect and there is no AF. All Manual focus.

I have used Olympus OM mount adaptors with manual focus to mount older/different mount lenses with some success (As an example).

Best idea is to search ebay for your mount converters.

I hate to re-invent the wheel (and I don't want to cut 'n paste someone else's hard work to present as my own) so please click here for a likely practical solution which usually works and for Canon's own suggestions on the error 99 fault.

If this has assisted you then please rate my answer; if not then add a comment to provide feedback and I'll attempt to provide an alternative solution.

Unless you have a lens collimator and other gear needed to make sure you get the lens and mirrors aligned properly when you put it back together, don't even think about taking it apart. Take it to a reputable camera shop and have a trained professional do it.

Is the Raynox DCR 250 compatible with 75-300mm Canon lens?

Have a look at this page for discussion about this adapter. Depending on the lens you're using it with - the DOF can be extremely shallow and make focusing difficult. If you're in Auto Focus mode - try switching to manual and see if you can get better results.

Good luck!

My lensmakes a sound when i video

The sound may be the result of the auto focus motor operating to keep the subject in focus. You may be able to shut off the auto focus by switch on the lens (if provided) or camera body menu and focus manually instead.

I have a Minolta Rokkor-x 200mm telephoto lens with fungus

Lens fungus is really common and it's not cost effective to repair. Even if the fungus is removed then the multicoatings are permanently damaged.

The good news is that until the fungus becomes pretty severe the image quality doesn't suffer much as most photos use the lens stopped down to some extent and this means that if the centre of the lens is clear then there's nothing to block the light paths.

Unfortunately it does tend to spread, so keep affected lenses in a separate camera bag to the rest and if you can afford to do so then throw them away and replace your camera bag as it will be loaded with microscopic spores waiting to attack more lenses. Making sure that your camera and lenses are completely dry and free of condensation before storing them until next used will prevent reoccurence.
