The problem is in the seat safety switch or associated wiring. Lift the seat, find the switch, and take a look for a connector that is off, a broken wire, or a loose or broken mounting for the switch. If all that seems ok, remove the switch and put tape across the plunger so it is activated. Run the mower and see if the problem is solved. If not, replace the switch - it's not expensive. Parts are available from Sears online or at their stores. You'll need the model number of your tractor. Good luck! Please rate my solution if helpful.

When shift lever is moved ouut of neutral mower takes off without using brake/clutch pedal pressing that pedal does no good craftsman 24 hp 42 inch cut

this should never happen. sounds like the belt is too tight as the pressing of the pedal should engage the drive train. Look for an adjustment being out or possibly a broken retractor spring. Be sure to pull spark plug wire while trouble shooting as you do not want to have the engine start.

Craftsman Lawn Tractor 17hp 42 model 917.271662 auto trans idles and bucks when cutting grass

The symptom that you are feeling is that your transmission is not fully engaging correctly. Basically you have a few different things to try depending on the trans that is on your machine. Drain the fluid and re-install new fluid, adjust your brake/clutch to make sure that you are fully disengaged and fully engaged when you release the pedal. If none of those 2 cure your issue then you are looking at a trans rebuild or replacement

I have a Craftsman 19.5hp 42in deck lawn tractor problem. The tractor starts ok but when I release the brake it shut down.

Your tractor has several safety switches. Look around your brake pedal and linkages. You will see a little plastic switch has 2 wires going to it unplug and put the 2 wires together if it runs switch is bad. You can replace the switch or just cut the wires and wire nut them together.
