Question about JBL CREATURE II Computer Speakers

1 Answer

I have had my JBL Creature Speakers II for 5 years now and no problems up till now. I removed the AC in cable to move the speakers and when I put it back and turned it on it doesn't work. No lights come on, nothing! I have checked and checked the cables are in the right hole and they are all pushed in properly, pushed the power switch off and on several times. I read that sometimes it can be a connection issue so I twisted the av cable and gave it a wiggle to see if I can improve the connection but still nothing. The only thing I haven't tried is switching it off and on at the mains power because the plug point is behind a very heavy piece of furniture that is fixed to the wall, but another device that is using the same plug point is working so I don't think think it's that. Help!

It sounds like your power supply is shot. Is the light on the ac converter on (if there is a light)? If it is then we know for sure there is power getting to the supply. Speakers last virtually forever on their own when they are taken care of, however the typical component to go is the power supply. While this is not a guaranteed fix, it is a pretty cheap alternative to buying a whole new system, see the following website to get a new power supply for $20:

I hope this helps. please rate my solution

Thanks for the advice. There is no light on the AC adaptor, but is feels warm to the touch.
Thanks for the link for a new adaptor, but I live in the uk. Could you tell my the type of adaptor I will need so I can search for a stockist in the uk?

I found that website by googling "JBL Creature II power supply", it really just needs any kind of generic 18 volt speaker-quality power supply. Hearing that the power supply is hot/warm to touch and the light on it is out makes me more certain in my idea that the power supply is shot.

JBL CREATURE II soundspeakers are dead without power

When the power to the system was applied to the speakers before you realized the cables were chewed, you blew some components in the power boards to the speakers. You could look to see if there are replaceable fuses. Otherwise a trip to the repair shop or new speakers.

Hi: I have your white Creature II(?) speakers. I was using them on another computer for years and they worked fine. I have since taken them off of that computer and hooked them up to a computer in my...

Move the speakers back to the first computer, to ensure that they still work.

Make sure that the speakers are getting AC power.

Check that you have plugged them into the "line-out" (GREEN) conector on the sound-card.

Check that you have not "muted" the sound on your bedroom computer.

Move the "volume-control" slider away from "minimum".

Open Device Manager on the computer, to confirm that your audio-device is fully-loaded into Windows, with the correct device-drivers.
Having any "unknown" devices is a hint that some device-drivers have not been loaded.
