Question about Lexmark X7170 All-In-One InkJet Printer
There are few possible reasons that can cause to happen, first, i will advice you install the printer driver i you have not, and if you have, at this point, i will suggest you uninstall and reinstall the printer driver after uninstalling, restart the system after reinstalling.
If the problem still persist after reinstalling the printer driver, change the port the printer cable is been plug in on your computer, if still same problem, get another cable for the printer the printer cable might be defective. With all this options, you printer should be recognized by your computer.

A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by
resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer
from your computer (if USB connected)> reboot your pc > unplug and
re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns
on, reconnect it to your computer (if USB connected). Then try to print again
once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection or when the WiFi light on
the printer turns solid green (if WiFi connected.).
