On most aftermarket stereos there will be a sticker on the bottom that will explain the wire colors and what they are. If the mounting sleeve is still on it you will have to remove it to see what I am talking about. The three main wires that you need to worry about are:

  • RED - Power (Bat +)
  • Black - Ground
  • Yellow - Constant or Memory ( now with the constant wire some vehicles have a seperate wire connection for this some don't what this wire does is give your stereo a little juice for keeping settings, cd position, time stuff like that. Most will just splice this into your hot wire.)
  • Speaker wires- This is what trips everyone up. you can get away with trial and error with this one. The trick with speaker wires they will all be in pairs. one wire will be solid and the other will have a stripe of the same color on it. once you find one the others will be easier to find.

You will need the wire harness that is designed to connect to the stock stereo. Another option is to just install your alpine stereo in the car since you have the wiring harness for that. You will not be able to wire the harness for the alpine unit and have it match the plug type for your stock stereo.

You can obtain adapters to simply wire up your alpine with your car without any modifications of any wires at all, Making the whole process of installing new stereo easy and simple to do at home.
Contact your local auto spares shop and ask about radio wiring adapters/harnesses.
