Question about Kenmore HE2 Plus Front Load Washer

1 Answer

My wife washed an old pillow that exploded in the wash. The drain/ or intake to the pump has got to have a screen that I need to clean out. I don't have a manual to help with getting to the part, and would like to know if something else may need cleaning. The pillow fibers were like dog hair.

Other than the line filter in the drain hose there is one usually just before the pump. This requires access to the hose leading to the pump inlet. Undo it and flush through. Then undo outlet side of pump and place inlet on the pump and reflush. Replace hoses when it runs clear Make sure you tighten up the hoses so they dont leak.

Access is usuall from the rear, but often better from the base with machine on its side.

thanks for the prompt reply, I have some water in the washer now. There is already a small amount of water on the tile floor from quickly checking the intake hoses. Should I be concerned with turning washer on side with water inside?

Washed a pillow and it exploded. Cleaned it out filled again did not wash does not make a sound does not spin does not empty NOTHING

If it is a front end washer some of the pillow maybe stuck behind the rubber between the door and the washer tub. Pull back the rubber and see if anything is stuck behind it. All the fibers from the pillow may have jammed the tub and made the machine overheat. Clean out anything you can reach and see if that frees up the tub. If the tub is moving look in your owner's manual and see if their is a reset button. Also check and see if the electrical fuse is kicked off, especially since most washing machine are on GFI outlets which are easily set off.

you'll need to access the pump and remove the hoses to check the impeller and inlet screen.

Waont drain

I would check the pump.
Follow the drain hose back to the pump, disconnect the outlet hose from the pump and disconnect the inlet hose from the pump. Look inside both hoses and the pump for pillow pieces.

The pump may have to be removed for cleaning, you should be able to turn the pump by hand, if not, replace the pump.

Inner tub.
Run some water in the washer with the inlet hose disconnected from the pump. You'll need a pan or bucket for the water to run into and look for pillow pieces.

Water Won't Drain from Washing Machine

Hello phylislw61,
If you had an incident where a pillow broke and feathers where dispersed throughout the washer..then there is a good chance that teh drain fiilter screen, pump or hose feeding the pump is clogged. I would verify that the filter is free from anything that would limit water flow from getting to the pump.. then if the problem is still there.. examine the pump itself to make sure it isn't clogged...
If you or someone in your family is reasonably handy, here is a link to your washing machines exploded view and parts and this should provide sufficient information for how to access the pump and associated hoses etc that feed into and out of it for cleaning..
If you are having problems after you verify the lines are free of restriction, feel free to contact me and I will try to assist you in solving your problem.. Here is the link..

Washer stops mid cycle, clean pump and water tap closed lights on.

sounds like you may have sucked up a baby sock or something similar into the pump intake of that machine, and your inline filters are clogged. my sisters old GE used to do that (eat baby socks) unplug it and turn off the water spigots, start undoing them from the wall with channel lock pliers and machine examining the ends of the hoses(theres filters on the ends) for minerals and deposits, scrape them off with a small blade screwdriver or equivalent, also going into the machine the valve intake bodies (where the hoses screw into the machine)have filters in them also, clean them off but be careful they bend and break easily and may have to be replaced, . Now for the pump, undo the drain hose and grab a bucket, put the bucket on the floor and put the drain jose in it, if nothing comes out you need to move the machine higher than the bucket so maybe move the washing machine to the door and let the hose hang out the door, down the stairs if you have them and into the bucket, now depending on the machine you need access to the pump, either theres a access plate on the back or the machine may need to be tipped on its side so you can see under it, use a flashlight to kinda get an idea where its at. Several people argue wether or not a washing machine should be put on its side but the maytag man told my brother that if the machine is newer theres no problem so go ahead and gently put it on its side if you have to gain access that way, the pump housing resembles a pool pump kinda and you should be able to find it easy, the drain hose comes right from it, the housing on most of them are translucent so you can kinda see through it to see if theres something in there, using your channel locks undo the pipe clamps from the intake of the pump to the hose from the bottom of the macchine and look inside the pump, careful of the plastic part$ the pump can be run two different ways on that machine but a direct drive most likely so try and spin the pump drive either way to see whats hanging it up. My sister started putting her baby socks and small stuff in an old pillow case for washing after I had to fix it AGAIN. good luck
