Turn both jet needles CW to stops (lightly), then back out each CCW 1-1/2 turns. This is a basic setting that should allow the engine to start and run. Start the engine and allow to warm up, then pull throttle full on. Adjust H needle CW until the engine starts to speed up, but continues to 4-stroke. Proper setting is when the engine 4-strokes unloaded, but immediately 2-strokes when cutting. Release the throttle and adjust L needle CW for better idle, yet allows the engine to 'follow the throttle'. Adjust idle speed screw so that the chain stops turning, but the engine continues to run. Hope this helps!

Check the fuel filter, air cleaner, and muffler for plugging. Check the fuel line for decay or other damage. Make sure you have fresh fuel mix in the tank (40:1) using a modern synthetic oil made for saws. If the above doesn't help, you will need to remove the carburetor, clean it inside and out with spray carburetor cleaner and check the lower chamber diaphragm for flexibility--no holes or cracks. If the two jet needles have been disturbed, turn both screws CW to stops (lightly), then back out CCW 1-1/2 turns each. This is a basic setting which should allow the engine to start and run. Start the engine and allow to warm up, then pull the throttle full on and adjust the H needle CW until the engine starts to speed up, but 4-strokes. Correct adjustment is when the engine 4-strokes unloaded, but immediately 2-strokes when cutting. Release the throttle and adjust L needle CW for better idle, yet allows the engine to 'follow the throttle'. Adjust idle speed screw so that the chain stops turning, but the engine continues to run. Hope this helps!

Where do I find a replacement chain for my McCulloch Eager ****** 2318av chain saw (model # 600038-12)?

Your friendly neighborhood chainsaw shop can fabricate one in about 5 minutes. Take your existing chain for use as pattern.

McCulloch.com

If original 18" bar.
part number(pn) MCC 21927533

Oregon Bar & Chain Selector (again original 18" bar)
http://www.oregonchain.com/commonpgm/Selguide_Selctmfg.asp?BusId=OCS&SellReg=USA&LangId=ENG&ShowRem=Y&ShowAnsi=Y&ShowQuality=Y&ShowCombo=Y&usertype=OCC
Your saw with 18" bar returns
Oregon pn 91VG060G.
This can be easily crossed to other manufacturers chain. You might consider a more aggressive chain (dependent on your level of expertise). HTH

Mcculloch eager ****** no oil going to chain

The oiler pumps on Macs are the usual suspect, try this:
Oil System Plugged.
  1. Remove the clutch cover, bar, and chain, clean the bar groove, any holes and passages on the rear of the bar (both sides, consider rotating the bar) Clean the saw oiler hole and channel. Start the saw and see if it oils when revved up. If yes reassemble your saw. If no, continue with 2.
  2. Insert a blunted, hooked piece of wire through the oil filler hole and pull the hose in the oil tank out (clean or replace, difficult to determine serviceability). Work your way through the linkage cleaning and replacing any defective parts as you go. Carefully check the hoses for cracks especially at bends and connections. If equipped with an oil pump it is usually behind the clutch (clutch is a left handed thread). Please make extensive notes & some digital pictures will help during reassembly.
Build an IPL number like this:
McCulloch Manual
Illustrated Parts Lists: (IPLs) are fairly simple, on the underside of McCulloch saws is a black and yellow tag; the upper number (“Power Mac 320” 600021H) is the model, below it a serial number (11-18555). These 2 numbers are combined to create an IPL number (“Power Mac 320” IPL number = 11-600021H). The IPL number can be used to find the correct IPL for every McCulloch parts supplier I have found. If the parts supplier only list part numbers the proper IPL is the source for the part number.

If you can not find parts please repost with the IPL number and I will share my secret Mac parts source.
