Please let me know the motherboard's specifications or the motherboard name. I can help you.

Yes with most 775 socket, we can install intel p4, intel dual core, core2dou, etc.. but we need to know the motherboard details like bus speed, chipset, etc.. otherwise it's of no use installing this and that processors, rams, video/graphics cards, you'll only end up damaging both the motherboard and the processor or the ram or the cards.
Regarding ram, if there're four slots, they must be different slots, like a pair for DDR1 and another pair for DDR2. You may be install additional memory, but there are limits with most motherboards, like maximum 4 gb, maximum 8 gb etc.. Without the motherboard series or it's name, i can give you the details about this configuration.
Once you let me know it's details, i can give you the full information about your motherboard, whether it supports quad core or 16gb ram etc.. etc..

(This is a Clarification, not a solution)

Awaiting your reply.

Good luck.

for the memory i'm sure it has 4 slots, 1 yellow 1black 1 yellow 1 black. if i fill them with 4 2gb modules will it work?

Yes it will fit with your motherboard. Forthe memory, i believe 4gig is the maximum allowed on that board.

Can I use a Intel P4 HT 2.6 GHZ Socket 478 PC CPU Processor SL6WH with this mother board

Hi,

Unfortunately you would not be able to use it. Even though it has the same socket platform which is 478, the maximum FSB that the Motherboard can handle would be 500Mhz. The processors that you want to use has an FSB of 800Mhz. You can always try but there would be no guarantee for success, even if it does work, stability would not be achieved.

Hope this helps.

FIXYA has several "solutions" for your motherboard, at: http://www.fixya.com/tags/mcp61pm_am

Take a close look at the motherboard; each pair of pins at the "far-end" (furthest away from the keyboard/mouse connectors) should be labelled, e.g., 'PWR/power', 'HD LED', 'Power LED', 'RST/reset'.

You have a socket 754 motherboard. That socket had been in use for just 2 years over 5 years ago. Obsolete.
Get a new  AM3 socket one and a new processor.

I have an ASUS P5S800-VM Motherboard socket LGA775

Hi,

To answer your question, yes it's possible.

I'm sure you wouldn't like it if I left it at that, so I'll explain a bit more.

It's about as simple as this: The processor you want to install into the motherboard is for an LGA 775 mobo such as yourself. Therefore, it should have no problems when you put it in.

Hope I was of assistance.

Yes, you can do the upgrade. About how worthy it is, it depends on your daily application. If you're using application that can utilize the upgrade than it surely worth. But if you feel like your current processor has more than enough power, your best bet is not to upgrade.
