Why would there be a weak pilot flame so my heater won't light

The orifice in the pilot light nozzle may be partially clogged.

I have a goodman model gms80703ana the burner comes on and when the blower comes on the burner goes out.

This can be due to a dirty flame sensor or a high limit switch tripping. Clean the flame sensor first, this is a metal rod on the opposite side of the igniter, take steel wool and scrub it, then reinstall. If this does not work then the limit switch is tripping due to dirty filter, dirty blower wheel, weak blower motor. Aything that restricts airflow will cause the limit switch to trip.

Kenmore Water heater, Model # 153.339462, Pilot lights, burner burns for approx. 10 - 15 minutes then both go out. after which it is more difficult to light the pilot. I need ideas please

Clean combustion parts, clean air intake, get more air to water heater and see if problem continues.
Look at color of burner flame and pilot flame: if flame has yellow-and-orange instead of clear blue flame, then combustion parts need cleaning.

Pilot and burner problems can be caused by bad thermocouple, thermocouple not sitting in flame, weak pilot flame due to dirty tube or low gas pressure, air in gas line, no draft up vent, backdraft coming down vent, dirty combustion parts, clogged air intake, insufficient air, insufficient air quality, hot attic, bad gas control valve, etc.

GMH95, FLAME SHUTS OFF AFTER A FEW SECONDS

Flame rod dirty or bad, flame tray not allowing flame to travel to all burners quick enough, look for error codes on PC Board and research code from wiring diagram on reverse side of front panel. The flame rod is a small probe located in front of the last burner that ignites and is heated by the flame. It will have only one wire going to it and goes from rod to PC Board. Take a tooth brush and scrub it in place. If it continues, change it but inspect wire first. Blow out any debris in tray that allows flame to go from first burner to all others. A good shot of air will work.

My patio mushroom heater lights up ok but keeps going out by itself after about 5 to 10 minutes and then can be started again inatantainiously by starting pilot light and away you go until it goes out...

Hello,
Here's a few things to check. When you light the pilot, is it a strong blue pilot flame, a weak blue flame or a lazy yellow flame? Is it heating the thermocouple enough to make it red hot after a few minutes? If the pilot is small blue or lazy yellow flame, it may be dirty and need cleaned. When the burner lights, the weak pilot flame may diminish causing the thermocouple to cool off enough to shut down the main burner. Clean the dirty pilot orifice by using a can of compressed air with attached straw. (The same canned air you use to clean computer keyboards) Blow it into the pilot assembly where the pilot flame burns out from and blow thru the air holes on the side, if applicable. You might also check the thermocouple itself to make sure the tip is not partially burn't off. It should be a smooth, rounded tip. Replace the thermocouple if cleaning the pilot orifice doesn't solve the problem. Douglas

My 8 yr old Goodman heater will ignite for 10-20 seconds then cut off, and then attempt over and over. Leaving our 2 bdrm condo cold. It did this last year, and all we had to do was change the filter. I...

Sounds like a flame sensor issue. It may just need to be cleaned. It is located either far right or far left in the burner box and has only one wire going to it. It will be in the flame of the last burner. If the flame can't get to it in a very short time the computer shuts the burner down. Make sure all burners are clean. You can use a can of air if you are careful near the igniter, it is very delicate. Here are some other ideas.
On a call for heat, the 24 volt thermostat sends a signal to the control module. The control module will indicate a call for heat with a light on the control either blinking or remain solid depending upon model. The inducer (exhaust) blower will purge all gasses from the furnace and pressurize a pressure switch. Once the pressure switch tells the module to continue, the electronic ignition will energize and send 120 volts to the igniter. The igniter will glow and you will be able to see it if viewed thru the small inspection port. Once the igniter gets hot enough, it sends a signal to the module opening up the gas valve (24 volts). Either a pilot will come on or the burner tube will ignite then spread the flame to all burners. Lastly a safety sensor will be looking for a certain temperature within a few seconds and the furnace will continue to operate and the room air blower will turn on in a minute or two.

What could go wrong? The unit will not run if there is no signal from the thermostat (bad thermostat or broken wire), the control module does not sense a signal from the thermostat (bad control), the inducer does not energize (bad motor), the pressure switch does not close (blocked vent piping, bad switch, plugged condensate hose), the igniter does not energize (bad control, bad igniter), the gas valve does not open or there is no gas (bad gas valve, broken wire, no gas), the pilot does not light (dirty pilot), the burner does not light (bad burner, plugged orifice, not enough combustion air), the flame does not spread to each burner (bad flame spreader, dirty flame spreader, more bad burners), the flame safety sensor does not detect flame (dirty or bad flame spreader, bad flame sensor, broken wire, bad control), or the room air blower does not energize (bad fan motor, bad control).

Goodman furnace seems to be cycling too often. Burner not staying on long enough to put warm air into system. Burner quits after a few seconds then repeats.

dIf the burners are only staying on for about 5 seconds, you proably hav e a dirty flame sensor. Watch the burners light, the glow plug will light one end of the burners, in front of the last burner to light the will be a small thin rod, this rod must sense the flame or the gas will be shut down. Take a piece of steel wool and gently cleqan the rod.

Had no gas coming into the oven of my Viking 305. bought a new dual thermal valve and replaced it. now i have small flame on left burner and none on right. right after installation, flame was strong for...

Are the burners on top getting enough gas? Is there enough gas coming out of the wall? Did you purchase the correct dual valve? Is the orifice sizing correct? Make sure the holes are not plugged on the burners. And u should also check to see if your line has debris in it. Either unplug the holes or check the pressure out of the line in the wall. What makes you think the right one isn't getting enough gas? Could it be an ignitor? Anyways, the burners have a 5 yr warranty. Try replacing those. Good luck.

Drying time too long

You are going to want to check and make sure there is proper air flow from the vent outside the house. If it feels weak then you will need to get it cleaned out. If enough air is not exiting the thermostat will shut off the flame for safety reasons. If your air flow seems to be working okay then it may be a problem with the thermostat. Let me know if you have any other questions and let me know if this was helpful. Good luck and I am glad i could help.
