This kind of job is best being done by a professional, you could possibly have faulty wires, try and find a computer technician in your area, you don't want to leave it too long otherwise the problem might get worse, or if you haven't had the computer that long see if you can get a replacement

LCD video cable. Plus, to connect and activate an external monitor, you click Fn + F2, not F8.

Hp pavillion dv9000 lcd screen changes colour when moved

The inverter is to change the volts from the laptop to the Backlight. This wont have anything to do with it.
Im more than certian it will be the LCD cable. Proberly loose or torn at where the lid closes.
Hope this helps.

Dell Inspiron E1705 does not show any picture

First of all, check that the laptop is set to output video to the LCD. There should be a function key which will determine whether it is outputting video to the built-in LCD, the external monitor, or both. That should be holding down your "FN" key and hitting "F8." If it is on CRT ONLY, it should switch within 1-2 keypresses.

Secondly, take a good bright flashlight and shine it directly at the LCD panel from about 1-2 inches away. If you can actually see the graphics on the screen faintly in the background, your backlight is not turning on. The backlight is literally a bulb which lights up the screen, and they can burn out. It is repairable, and shouldn't cost more than $150.00 from a reputable repair shop.

Where is the LCD backlight inverter on an Inspiron

The inverter is in the LCD, below the actual screen. It controls the brightness and the contrast on the laptop. Here is a link where I purchase them:

It is easy to replace. Here is a link that will guide you:

Check your backlight settings, Power Settings, etc.....

You may have Vista (vista has other power settings such as a custom sleep mode which can fail sometimes to work properly with some hardware/monitor configurations).

Looks like the backlighting on the display has failed, sometimes it is just a lose cable, buy most often the LCD needs to be replaced.

to check the cable see the manual at http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins9400/ for how to get to the LCD cables (usually just under the cover that the power button is on)

Dell Laptop E1705 Screen goes Blank

If your video output works fine when connected to an external monitor, then the issue is with the LCD display panel. I’m afraid the only way to fix this is have the LCD panel replaced. The ribbon cable that plugs the LCD panel into the motherboard could also be the culprit. Here's a link to the display assembly for 1501: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1501/en/sm_en/display.htm#wp1022270
