Check the ground. I would make it a stout wire wire as well. at the least 4 guage.

The only other thing I can tell you is to unhook your power wire to it and run a straight wire from the battery to it see if that is the problem. It is possible that him touching the hot wire to the ground caused an arc and that arc caused the short. It is possible that your remote wire could have been affected as well. Let me know if any of this helps. Also let me know what model the AMP is ill do some research n this end

Amps are a tricky thing. They are designed to take 12v DC and transform, step it up, rectify it and then finally have an output. There are hundreds of capacitors, and diodes in there. I had a printed circuit board on my instrument cluster and one of the traces were burnt out, just one and it threw the whole cluster off, No lights, inaccurate guage readings, the works, I mean there were at least 20 traces on the back of that things and just one being burnt up caused all this. I hate to say it but your friend is lucky that he didnt short your entire electrical system. I had a buddy that didn't have a clue how to wire up a stereo and he shorted his entire main harness by grounding out the hot wire. Sorry I couldnt help more, sounds like your friend is going to be in the market for an amp to give to you. Good Luck

How to get amp out of safe mode

first check all connections, fuses and speaker wiring. Check to make sure that the amp is getting enough power to keep it running, meaning a piece of 4 to 8 gauge minimum wre from your battery to the amp. Make sure no wires are touching ground on the speaker outputs all the way to where they connect to the speakers. You can check this with a Ohm Meter to see if their is a direct short to ground. Or unhook all speakers and 1 by 1 touch them onto the amp to see if it cuts out. If the amp is going iinto protect mode without any speakers hooked up to iit (I have a bad keyboard sorry for the extra or missiing I's) and all other things I mentioned are OK then your amps bad and needs to be serviced. Hopefully It's just be a shorted speaker or wire.

I have a kicker dx 500.1 amp and a kicker cvr12 sub. When I first hooked up worked perfect for a few minuted. Adjusted settings ont the side and it went out. Now When I power on it the protection light...

check the fuse on the power wire (+) not the ground wire .. i had a kicker 1500.1 on 2 l7 15\'s and when the bass would hit hard the fuse would vibrate and cause the amp to go into safe mode.. after re wireing the whole truck i then found out it was the 150amp fuse holder

Old Amp blew, got a new one. Power light came on but speakers didnt work. Unhooked the amp, hooked it back up and no power. Any ideas?

Are the speakers still working? When the old amp blew it might have blown the speakers too. Are any of the wires grounding out besides the ground? I would check the remote wire too. I also suggest replacing it with a bigger (smaller #) gauge wire, its not as sensitive to interference and gives your amp a boost in actual power to the speakers. Check any fuses to see if they are blown. Make sure all the connections are tight. If no power after this all checks out then amp is blown again and you might want to get smaller speakers or a bigger amp (or better).

I have a alpine mrp-m500 for about two years no problems at all. but one day it stops producing sound. i check all fuse on the whole system. is the a protect mode? and how do get it out of it?

If you have checked all the fuses.
Trace your ground wire that goes to the frame. It may be possible your ground is no longer grounded properly. You may just need to unhook the fuse from the battery, Unhook the ground wire from the chassis and restrip, put on a new connector, chisel off the paint around where the amp was grounded to and tighten it back down. Hook back up your fuse to the battery and check and see if it removes the protect light.
Also check to make sure your RCA cables aren't bad. If the RCA cables ground it'll put the amp into protect mode too. Basically just switch out the RCA cables for a good pair.
If the remote wire on the amp is touching the ground, it'll throw the protect light too. That's pretty much the extent, unless the amp has a short inside it.

Hope this helps!

I have checked all connections to my amp battery, head unit, remote or trigger wire, fuses, power cable, rca leads, ground wire, amp has a green led light on it indicating if it works ok,red if it`s not,light...

Your amp could be in protection mode! Sometimes turning up to high or wires touching will put in protection mode! It will have to be unplugged for a day or two to drain all power out of the memory. Leave accessorie/ignition wire hooked up, just not power and ground wiring. It should reset itself.

Amp stuck in protect mode.

Disconnect all speaker connections and rca cables. Leave power, ground and remote wires intact. Try turning on again. If you still have a protection light your amp is faulty. Hopefully you have warranty. Double check all connections. Good Luck.A thumbs up would be greatly appreciated if this answer is helpful to you. Worth fixing.
