If by the power cord you are reffering if the monitor itself need to be connected with a power cord..other than the VGA cord you connected iot to the main unit or the laptop ..the answer is yes...all monitors have to be powered...Some have regular 3 holes cord ..like most computers and old monitors...some newish one have just a 2 end cord ....but in all cases the power cord is supplied with the monitor when you buy it ..
Just tale a look in the back of the monitor and you will find the location for the plug ...it may be hidden by the plastic protection ...but all monitors are powered apart ...non of them powers by the vga cord..

3) Finally go back to the Quick Search box, and click on the side arrow to the right.

[ P.S.
You can disconnect the LCD display, and use an external VGA monitor, while you wait for the replacement LCD screen.

1) Laptop off, VGA monitor off.
2) Connect the VGA monitor to the Left side of the laptop.
( External monitor port. The VGA connector resembles this one,

3) Turn the VGA monitor on. Wait for it to 'warm up'.
Turn the laptop on.

If the display does not automatically go to the external monitor;
Press, and hold down on the Fn key.
Tap the F4 key.

(The VGA monitor can be a CRT monitor, {Looks like a small TV}, or a flat LCD screen monitor that has a VGA connector, and a VGA cable ]

I have just bought a new home pc and connected my hp pavilion f50s monitor but no image. I have now connected it to my laptop and it works so monitor is fine. Can you help?

The PC might have a bad VGA output - it should work at the default level without the driver. I'd return the PC to the store. If you have another monitor, try it out to verify the VGA output is bad.

MY monitor flashes, goes black then comes back on. This happens once in a whyle.

well this might be because the power cord of the monitor is loose contact so check it. if it is ok then check the power options settings in the control panel- performances and maintenance- power options- power schemes you will find turn off monitor option select the required option from drop down list and apply the settings.

good luck

I need a new motherboard for my hp pavillion f50.

You can find motherboard for most systems on EBay

http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=HP+Motherboard&_sacat=0&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313&_dmpt=Motherboards&_odkw=pavillion+motherboard&_osacat=0

That is a generic search for an HP motherboard. You will need to refine the search for the model of your tower (F50 is the model of the Monitor)

Blank display, machine seems to boot ok but display is blank.

If you hear your computer beep once then your system has no problem. If it does'nt show a display, try to check the power of your monitor, if it has power. Check the power cords and also the vga connection.

Supplying power to the monitor to get it to work

I think what you need is a "D" shell connector.. see if the one that fits your PC Power Supply will fit into the Monitor.. if so then purchase another the same. It's called a "D Shell" Power Cord.
