I have a phillips rear projection tv model no 55PP8620/79. Its showing a a red haze and poor picture quality. How do I fix this?

If the red haze is not convergence---that requires parts.

The set has three picture tubes---with set unplugged and back cover removed clean the three large lens that are topside---as for the red haze a quick way to know what is wrong is with set on turn the color to zero----what color is the screen? Should be black and white--if red to some degree tracking or screen controls may need adjusting inside the set---Yellow picture in that situation is a different issue.

Yellow haze on screen

Hi , it seems you are experimenting a light engine problem. Here's how your tv works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLLHnQ4y-wo Basically there's 3 LCD chips that create the colors and image by blending together. When these chips start to melt you will get those blue spots, pixilation even vertical lines. You will need to replace the light engine. Have a blessed one!

The three colors are sereating,, like the spcetum is coming apart

Sounds like the converge has gone out. 2 parts that blend the colors together. I am looking into fixing mine by myself this time. They say if you can solder and follow a schematic, you should be able to fix it.

I have a modle #5p5040 philips projection tv that has a strange colored picture when it is turned on whats my promblem

My problem with my projection LCD was the light engine went bad, it manifested itself with a growing blue haze that eventually washed over the entire screen. Luckily I got it fixed under warranty because it was a $2500 fix. The light engine is buried in the TV and needs a professional to align it.

Screen hazzy and issue with blue convergence

bad convergence would cause show to look as if it was supposed to be a 3-d movie, if a bulb was going out then people would look purple blue -green,or some other off color, so likely the green bulb is going out from the color of the people you described.

You have contaminated coolant fluid in the blue and green picture tubes.I do not reccomend that you attempt this repair.A shop should be able to get this unit looking like new again for about $275.

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.
