Question about LaCie 301888KUA 1TB Starck Desktop 1 TB USB 20 Hard Drive

1 Answer

I just bought my LaCie 301888KUA 1TB Starck Desktop USB2.0. I was following set up directions in the manual until I realized that my Mac OS X (version 10.5.8) is not recognizing the hard drive . It's not listed in the system profiler. I need help completing the installation.

The problem is that your lacie drive operates using the NTFS (New Technology File System) under USB which is the standard file system of Windows. Apple mac is not interopable with native NTFS therefore you need to install a read-write NTFS file-system driver on your mac if you wish to use it via the USB connection.

an excellent free mac NTFS driver can be found here-
http://mac.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/NTFS-3G.shtml

download and install the software then restart your mac.

Hi John

This situational you have to do only one thing change you USB cable and try, if your drive is appeared its mean you solve the issue. otherwise take the drive and go to the lacie nearest service center because the drive have internal problem (may be Capistrano fault).

Since purchasing and mounting the Starck 1TB drive I have had problems with this when attempting to mount both drives - I had to reformat the older drive - it worked fine until I tried to mount the Atarck...

Greetings,

I would try another USB connection/bus. For example, have one drive on the front ports of your system (if it has them) and then the other drive on the back ports. Additionally, if both or either drives have an option to include a power adapter or a second usb connector for power, I would highly recommend that those are used.

That may be "the clash" that we talked about in the clarification section.

Hope that helps,

My Lacie 1T hard drive tells me it has insufficien memory when I try to add a file it is brand new how do I reformat it?

Hi,

Have you followed the steps given below accurately ? If not, do it once again please

1. Connect the power supply.
2. Connect the USB, FireWire or eSATA cable to your computer and to the drive.
3. Turn on the drive by moving the power switch to On or Auto (drive powers on/hibernates automatically). The drive will mount in My Computer (Windows) or on your desktop (Mac).
4. Before using the drive, LaCie Setup Assistant software must be launched to format your drive. It will
• Optimize your drive according toyour needs
• Copy the manual and utilities on
your drive

I Hope this is helpful

I have a lacie had drive that i've been using on my mac. My mac died and I bought a PC instead. How can I retrieve the data I stored on my Lacie?

The easiest way that I know is to purchase a program called MacDrive from Mediafour.com

This will let your PC (Windows XP, Vista or Windows7) read the mac formatted HD directly

They do have a trial version, so you can make sure it'll work for your HD before you pay for it.

When I put my mac in sleep mode and restart it I get a message that says I have not put my lacie hard drive away right. How do you do that.

The message you are getting is refering to removing the Lacie before disconnecting it.

Just as you eject a drive before unplugging the cables to prevent corruption you must do the same before going to sleep as turning off the power to your USB ports(which happens in sleep mode) is no different than unplugging the drive without ejecting the drive when the computer is running.

If your Mac is set to go to sleep and save power when it is not in use then you should only plug your Lacie in when you are using it and should eject the Lacie before going to Sleep.

Failure to do so will eventually result in a loss of data.

If you have already lost data from a Mac formatted Lacie drive then you should refer to the below link for assistance in recovering your files, if not simply follow the above steps and you should not have any problems as a result of your Mac going to Sleep.

My lacie hard disk 1tb all of a sudden isnt

Just contact www.lacie.com great support. their answer for my drive was to reboot the drive. For me it worked.

Follow the procedure below to reset the Network Space to factory defaults:
  1. Move the power switch to the OFF position. Wait for the drive to shut down.
  2. Turn ON the drive.
  3. Within about 3 seconds, flip the switch OFF and On several times.
  4. Immediately turn it ON
If the light flashes quickly, the unit is resetting itself. Attempt to connect to the drive again after about 1 minute using the default username and password (by default, they are both admin.)
