Question about Canon PowerShot G10 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Hi, I have a Canon Power Shot G10, Serial Number 7021002939. I'm making the first ever attempt to download photos from the camera to my MacBook Pro. I wish to use iPhoto to download to the computer. I have plugged the USB cable into the computer and into the digital terminal of the camera. I have pressed the Playback button. FYI, I have also downloaded the Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk. The Canon program will not download the photos, either. Nothing happens. I have tried the operation several times. Nothing happens after pressing the Playback button. I have confirmed there are photos in the camera memory. Can you help me? Thanks. GJ

1. With the camera on and in playback mode, plug the cord from the camera into the Macbook. It should appear on the desktop as a drive, probably called "no name". If it doesn't, don't worry...the next solution always works and it's the one the pros use anyway. 2. Get a card reader and use it to download to a folder you create on your desktop. From there, you can import the pics to iPhoto.

You can try a few things to see if they help
  • First is to power off the camera and detach and reattach the lens just to make sure you are getting a good connection for the auto-focus
  • The second thing you want to do is shoot in RAW format to be sure you are able to retain the most information in the image.
  • Make sure the noise reduction is turned off in the camera menu
  • If you aren't using a cable shutter release you can opt to have the shutter delay after pressing the button. This will allow the camera to stop shaking from you pressing the button before it releases the shutter. You can find this option in the menu. Camera 2 > Anti-Shock > 3 sec.
  • Another consideration is the quality of the lens you are using. The G10 has great glass while a kit lens from Olympus may not give the fidelity throughout like the G10 does. You can try another lens if you have one available to see if this is the case. The G10 is a single purpose camera that has a great lens on it. The E-500 may need a better quality lens on it in order to achieve the sharpness you desire. Olympus makes a great 50mm macro that has an f2.0 brightness.
  • You can also set the camera to manual focus and then choose to do focus bracketing. This is a little more involved and you can find out how to do so in the manual for the camera.

Canon G10 Power Shot. When pressing shutter button nothing happens. Button does not seem to fully de press.

Dear Richard,

It sounds like the release button is damaged on the camera. Try taking a little windex and cleaning the area around the button. It is possible that some residue got inside and causing the switch not to make connection. If this does not work; I suggest you take or ship to authorized Canon Repair center. Do what the pros do....use a card reader instead of the camera. When you plug it into the USB port, an icon will appear called "NO NAME". Double-click on it and the pics will open in "preview". From there, you can import them to a folder you create on your desktop or into iPhoto. d05ed6a.jpg

My G10 will automatically take 3 photos in one shot on if it is not on auto mode. Even if I've already set it on single photo mode.

It's probably bracketing each photo. Depends on the settings, but it will take the same picture and under expose or over expose it making sure you get a good picture.
