I need to change a faulty cartridge in my epson dx7400, but it's not empty and I can't find out how to access it.
The magenta cartridge is half full, but doesn't print at all in red. Deveral head-cleanings and nozzle checks made no difference.
Ok here is the way to get it. but you have to be quick.
Be close to the power cord at rear or the MAINS power switch
. Turn the printer on, and as it initialises it will unlock the carriage of cassettes. This usually causes it to travel out from its home a small way before it returns to rumble around to clean itself. The moment it moves off the base, pull out the power cord or turn off the mains. The carriage can now be manually pushed to the location that allows you to remove the cartridges. Replace the faulty one and manually return the carriage to its home. Replace the power cord or reinstate the power. Allow the printer to reinitialise and go through its usual paces.
Please rate my help++++Thanks for using FIXYA
It worked for me. Thanks
Don't be tempted to pull the plug, straight away. Wait for the carriage to physically move, then pull plug.
I then moved cartridge to desired position, removed all cartridges. Cleaned the "jet pins" with wet (water) cotton bud. Then switched on and did head cleaning 3 times and hey presto, my 2 non working cartridges are fine.
