Plunge it first ,, if after this your still having the same problem, you may have to remove the toilet and check to see that nothing has gone into the J trap in the toilet itself, toothpaste caps,, and other objects will allow a snake or plunging to work,, but the problem still happens due to an object that will slide to the side and then go back one the snake has been removed

Installed a new toilet this morning. Filled it and no leaks. Flushed the toilet and water spewed out the bottom of the back. How do we fix?

water in the bowl should not leak. but when you flush it it goes out the bottom into the drain. between the toilet and drain pipe there should be a wax ring gasket to seal the toilet to the floor drain if this wax gasket is damaged it will leak. replace with a thicker wax ring and after you put the toilet back in place sit on it to be sure it has smashed into the wax ring. and put nuts back on and tighten. do not over tighten sand crack the porcelain. this should fix your problem.

My toilet flushes, then the water in the bowl drains over 4-5 minutes resulting in sewer gas smells.

Look inside the tank under the lid, it sounds like the flapper that lets the water into the bowl is getting hung up on something when you flush. It could be the flushing lever. This would cause the flapper to stay open letting water to just pour into the open sewer line. It should be a simple fix. Just see what is binding the flapper & make an adjustment.

Kohler toilet not flushing completely

You have a partial clog, as if someone tried to flush paper towels or something that shouldn't have gone in the drain.

Try plunging, first, then a toilet snake, or you may have to get a pro to pull the toilet off the floor and run a larger snake if it's further down...

My mothers toilet will not flush, its like theres no suction, when flushed the water in the bowl goes down very slowly but not all the way down to the hole and when it does its very slow weak suction. I...

Try getting a bucket full of water and dumping it pretty rapidly into the toilet bowl. This is essentially what happens when the toilet is flushed normally, but it removes the variable of how the water is being delivered from the tank to the bowl. It should swirl and go charging down the drain, quickly leaving the bowl with very little water. If it does not act that way, then problem is definitely that the drain is obstructed. When you snaked it, you probably used a fairly short snake (about 10 feet?). Try a plunger - use a good one not the kind designed for sinks. Flush multiple times and get vigorous with it. If that doesn't clear it you will have to remove the toilet and use a much larger and longer snake (50 ft or more). good luck, Al K

My toilet makes a high pitched whine after being flushed. Pressing down on the top of the tank mechanism makes it go away but the next time it flushes the whine returns.

I would suspect that the flush valve has a blokage in it that is causing a harmonic distortion to be transmitted thru your cold water piping.. One way you may be able to help this is to slow fill rate down on your flush valve. If your fush valve has a seperate float to shut off water supply to tank when it;s full there should be a adjustement screw onside of valve where float rod goes in. Adjust screw down to raise float and thus slow fill rate of tank, this should help with the noise. Ifyour toilet does not have adjustable float see if you have a valve on incoming water supply. If you do you can try slow down flow thru supply valve and see if that helps, Thanks

The flap will not stay up to allow the recommended 80 of the water to drain from the tank unless I hold the handle down. I have tried shorting the chain and increasing the water level. Nothing works!!!...

This toilet is a Water Sense toilet and it only uses 1.28 gallons per flush and no more. The tank is never going to completely drain with this low flush toilet. It is designed that way. Make sure the tank is filling to the fill mark inside the tank. If not adjust the fill valve until it does. Federal law says that a toilet can use no more than 1.6 gallons per flush. If you can take this toilet back and get a refund I suggest you do so and buy a Toto toilet. They are the best flushing toilet on the market.
