Yes amps are only needed to run powerful Subwoffers or speakers But normal listening can be done without an AMP without any problems at all.

What amp/receiver are you using? Have you plugged the sub woofer cable to LFE output on the amp? Are you using the right subwoofer cable? Have you enabled the amp to use the subwoofer?

My mids and highs have cut off but my subs still work

are mids and highs amped? if so check fuse. many people forget about fuses. if running off head unit only, then the internal amp in the stereo in probably burnt up. if this happened you can run an external amp from the front rca outputs and problem solved with better sound than before!!

Im tryin to hookup aftermarket subs but the lineout converter isnt working, it sounds like alot of treble comin outt of the subwoofers. is there anyway to find a low frequency wire to tap into for the subs

instead of finding a low frequency line to attach to your LOC (line output convertor) use the built in crossover on yours subwoofer amp or an external crossover to limit the frequency range going to the subs

When I Connect the LFE Output of the Amp to the LFE Terminal of SW, the SW does not work, however, if the speaker output of Amp is connected to SW, it works ok.

I'm assuming your amp for testing was NOT a subwoofer output. I could be wrong.

Your source is responsible for creating LFE output. Are you sure it's doing that?

Tune an FM station and connect any other active RCA output from the source (like a Tape Out) to the sub

Pioneer Elite vsx-27tx receiver with no bass!?

There may be a subwoofer mute function on your amp. The sub out is nothing more than a preamp output with a low frequency response. It is meant to be amplified by an external amp. Either check your powered subwoofer for operation or look through your operators manual for a sub mute function.

Subs quit working its not the amp they were working fine

How do you know it's not the amp?  Have you tried hooking up good speakers to the same output terminals of the amp?

Speaker failure modes: Usually they fry, the foam surround disintegrates, or there's a bad internal wire connection/solder joint that fails. Subwoofers are designed to handle a lot of power and rarely fail.

There are three possibilities:
1) The signal isn't getting to the amp from the crossover.
2) The amp is toast.
3) The speakers are bad.

You don't tell me whether you have a separate amp for the subs with an external crossover, or whether you have one amp with internal crossover and separate internal amps and speakers outputs for subs and standard speakers, so I can't be more specific.

What you can do is:

Check all external connections, including the power connections.

Try substituting replacements for the patch (signal) cables to see if you have a bad cable.

Beyond this, it's pretty much up to a repair technician.

Subwoofer outputs not functioning

Have a good look at your set up in regards to volume output to each channels .
you may have only one channel working due to volume turn down or a faulty connection from the console head unit .
After going through all these , i would suggest to get your sub amp checked as you may have a faulty amp .

HOW DO I PLUG UP THE SUBWOOFER TO AMPLIFIER

On the back of the amp, there should be a jack with the name "SUBWOOFER PRE OUT". It is a standard RCA jack, but it only puts out a line output, meaning only self-powered subwoofers will work with it. Usually, if the subwoofer does not have an amp, it will have 2 imputs and 2 outputs. You plug the two left and right inputs into the front speaker jack on the amp, and then plug the front speakers into the left and right amp on the subwoofer.

Subwoofer not working

Try front or rear output and see if you're getting sound, if not the external output chip is fried, common issue with these.

How to connect unpowered subwoofer to receiver with RCA sub out?

In order for this to work, you will need an external amplifier. Your receiver is set up to use a "powered" sub. With only speaker connections on the sub, it is a "passive" sub requiring a separate amp.
