How to hook up laptop to desktop monitor

Have a laptop but for some odd reason my screen crack when I close the lid/monitor. Trying to have it replace without buying another laptop. How can I hook laptop up to my desktop monitor until I can find a reasonable repair or replacement. Acer company was going to charge $650.00 for monitor repair and I paid $628.00 for Wal-Mart for the entire laptop. Please do the math and will never purchase another Acer product. Thanks

There is a port for monitor cable, just plug your monitor and boot up your laptop. You need to plug first and then power it on. it should use your monitor for display

I'm going thru the same thing right now. My screen is messed up, but i can't get the monitor to show my desktop. It starts with my password on the monitor, but once i log on, the monitor goes to sleep. Acer is "THE WORST COMPANY AROUND!" I had an Acer while in Europe and had to have repair. first they lost it for six months, then they charged me half the price of the computer for repair. And I bought the best warranty. I told myself never again an acer, but my son bought me this one for my b=day after i returned from Europe. Now this one is bad.

The solution is to take it to a computer tech and have it repaired. My screen on my laptop (Acer) went black but if I let the sun shine directly on the unit or use a flashlight if there was no sun. I could get around on my laptop to put the info I needed on a flashdrive. I bought a Toshiba and was not happy with that at all. Had to take it in to get it repaired and decided my Acer was worth the repair of $250 to get the backlight replaced. I use my Acer all the time and let the grandkids play games on the Toshiba. I think it just depends on the individual laptop.

I have a monitor hooked up to my laptop, how can i keep the laptop closed and keep the screen up on the monitor?

i presume everytime you close the lid the laptop goes to sleep, you have to adjust the power setting in control panel

-in control ponel, select power options
-select the advanced tab
-change the drop box under "When i close the lib of my portable computer:" to "DO NOTHING"
-apply the changes and OK that, close you laptop and set it aside!

Has a Toshiba Tecra 9000 won't power up. Power light on front is blanking which appears to be a code 3-3-2

The problem is cause due to one of the following: the backlight or the display, check your monitor brightness settings. Sometimes your brightness may accidentally have been all the way turned down, resulting in a blank/dark screen. The monitor controls are on the keyboard, directly above the numeric keys.
Look closely at your laptop's screen if the steps do not restore power to it and if it remains blank. Can you see a faint image on the screen? If so, the backlight may be off due to the LCD "lid close" detector malfunctioning. This malfunction likely happened due to the lid close switch being stuck in the "closed" position even though the lid is open. The switch is located beside the LCD's screen hinges, and tapping the switch a few times should unstick it.
Use an S-Video cable and plug your laptop up to an external monitor, such as your television set. With the laptop and TV hooked up, turn both on and see if your computer's desktop is displayed on the TV. You can also use a fifteen ( 15 )pin monitor desktop monitor by connecting it to the blue fifteen ( 15 ) connector at the side of the laptop if you cannot see anything on screen it is the display problem. If it is, your laptop's display needs to be replaced. If not, your motherboard and/or video subsystem may need to be completely removed and replaced.

Loose Monitor on a HP Pavilion ZV6233nr Laptop

It seems that some screw that was loose is now totally out of socket. The latch assembly might be disbalanced due to that. To me it doesn't seem to be a broken latch.

How can i close the lid of my compaq R3000 when hooked up with a monitor and have it still run? is there a switch i have to hit?

You have to right click on your desktop and select properties (if using Windows XP) and go to power options under screen saver. There is an option where it says, sleep when I close the lid of my laptop. Uncheck that and you will be fine!

Usually on a laptop if you press the Fn key and F8 it will switch between screen and external monitors, some laptops use diffrnt keys, but they usually have blue pictures on the keys to show you.

I just bought a docking station for my Dell laptop computer. How do I hook it up so I can keep the top closed and use my desk top monitor? I want to be able to turn on the laptop without opening the lid.

Well.. you'd still have to open the lid to turn it on, right? (because you didn't mention the model of your laptop, I don't know where the power button actually *is*)
You want to close it while it's on, without it hibernating or going to sleep...

Go to your control panel, then into power or power management (depending on your Windows version, because you didn't mention it)

Then have a look under the "advanced" tab where it asks "when I close the lid of my computer". Set that to "do nothing".

Now when you close the lid, the laptop screen should turn off, but the PC should keep running. I'm not sure if that will still turn your external monitor off though.

I think that is your best solution, other than hacking off the little button that senses when the lid is closed. =-]
