Question about Samsung 215TW SyncMaster 21" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

My monitor SyncMaster 215tw has both vertical lines and strong flickering on the screen. At first this was intermittent, but now it seems to be permanent. This event happens after a warm or cold boot. I have updated the monitor drivers, but this has made no difference. Answers have said that the flickering is from capacitors, and lines are caused by a need for a new graphic card. Please, what is the solution for both?

Try and change the refresh rate of your monitor by following these options--

1.) Right click on your desktop.
2.) Select Properties.
3.) Click on the Settings tab.
4.) Click on the Advanced button.
5.) Open up the Monitor tab.
6.) Manually increase the Screen Refresh Rate to 75Hz, which is measured in Hertz.

If this doesn't help then check for any electronics item kept near the monitor like speakers, phone, etc. However, if the flickering still doesn't stop then the Internal Flyback Capacitor has gone faulty and you'll need to replace the capacitor. Also, check for the resistor near this capacitor, you may need to replace this as well.

I omitted an important fact. My monitor is an LCD display, so the refresh rate can't be set above 60MHz.

It looks like the capacitors are the problem. Where can I find out how to replace these?

I didn't notice that its an LCD. To replace the capcitors you'll need to pull out the back panel of the monitor. However, before proceeding with any repairs I'll suggest you to keep the LCD turned OFF and unplugged for atleast 2 hours to let the capacitors discharge. The capacitor you need to replace will have a bulged top(swollen). Please check out the complete procedure with pictures on this link---

You can buy the capacitors from radio shack or any local electronics store for $5-6. Please post back for any further assistance. If you are satisfied please do accept the solution.

Samsung syncmaster 215tw will only display faint blue screen-no images.

Check for a failure of the capacitors on the power supply board. This is a common problem with these units and its a very easy repair. Here is a link to a repair guide for the SyncMaster 214T which uses the ame power supply board so the repair information would be the same for the 2 units.

I hope this helps,

My Samsung SyncMaster 215tw stays in power saving mode with the blue power button flashing and won't turn on.

I'd verify all the cable connections first.

You could be dealing with two different problems, bad monitor, or a bad videocard/pc.

I'd swap the monitor out to verify that the computer is working as it should first. Once you determine that the PC is in fact fine, my suggestion would be to change the resolution on the PC to a lower setting then normal. Once that is done Plug the Samsung SyncMaster 215tw back into the pc and see if it powers on.

If it does not, i'd check the cables and swap them with something else to make sure thats not the problem. If you have another PC available, i'd test the monitor on that PC to make sure that it is not the issue.

After all that you'll come to the determination on what the problem is. Sadly, if the LCD is bad you'll have to replace it as they are extremely expensive to repair and generally not worth it.

However, i'd verify if it is under warranty or not, you never know! you might be able to get it fixed for free :D

When I play some games on my syncmaster 215tw, the screen goes black after 5 minutes. I have to reboot everytime to get the screen back on. The blue light flashes but i cant do nothing until i reboot....

that means your VGA is not big enough to run the game. This problem is not from the monitor but your system.I suggest an upgrade in your system to enhance better performance.

Samsung 215TW Monitor Flicker

Its the capacitors on the backlight power supply. Samsung installed crappy ones and they blow up after a year or two. Change out the caps and you're good to go

Samsung SyncMaster 215tw screen goes black after about 1 sec.

I have the same problem its defenitly a problem with the lcd monitor not with the graphics card nor the pc. I hooked up the digital and afterwards the vga connection both had the same result. 1 s perfect screen all visible but than black. pushing the on/off or standby button again shortly 1s the display works than it blanks. Did the same test while connected to a dvd player via the composite video... same problem . Since the previous posts are that old and without a solution I guess there is no hope in getting it fixed.
