Hi, i have a Canon dr 9050c scanner. I have the folowing Problem: When the Scanner power on then the Tray move up and down. if i start a scan from PC than can the Scanner not lift up the tray. It sounds...

It sounds like you diagnosed it.
The tray "paper detect sensor" thinks it has paper in it, and if it doesn't have paper in it...there's a problem with the sensor.
Take the tray off and inspect the sensor. Blow out around the sensor and it's PCB and make sure it is not out of position. Check the sensor lens for anything blocking it, and retest. If it still shows always on, then replace the sensor. Press the "count only" button to illuminate it, and press the "start" button. If the scanner works properly (tray lifts, pulls paper through the scanner, and counts it)...well then you have software or connectivity issue.

Hope that helps,

During scanning I am hearning a knocking sounds and after the carriage finishes it's path ; th screen show half image

Knocking -- whether it comes from an automobile or a finely tuned scanner -- never good.

It sounds like an obstruction is preventing the scanner from moving fully across.

You can test this by repeating the scan but keeping the lid up. Please don't look directly at the bright light... but see if you can observe the movement from watching the edge of the path.

Other than that... see if you can make the scanner completely level.

It could be as simple as replacing a belt that is slipping, but you might call HP if this scanner is very new.... you might be eligible for a warranty replacement.

My Dell 1815dn printer - says the scanner is locked. Makes horrible clicking sound when I try to scan of make a copy. How do I unlock the scanner?

The scanner has a manual lock (a blue sliding switch on the base of the scan bed inside of the printing output slot.)
This prevents the scan head from damage when the printer is moved.

Look and reach inside the paper outlet and pull the latch (located on the left) towards you.

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

Sharo al 1631 makes clicing noise and does not

Sounds like your scanner is jammed or the scanner motor has failed.

If you are so inclined, turn the power off, you can remove the glass and try to move the scanner by hand, if you can't move it then it is jammed, if you can move it to the middle and turn the machine back on, does it return it to its home position? if so, the motor may be OK, but the control board may have a problem, if not, the motor have likely failed.

Hope this is of some help.

Continually scanning

Make sure the lock switch is in the unlocked position. The lock switch is on the bottom of the scanner. It sounds like something is preventing the scanning bar from getting to the home position. If the scanner was somehow locked with the scanning head being out of the home position, then the result would be what you describe.

Trouble shooting

The "car sound" could be an indication that the scanner is locked. Check the lock switch on the bottom of the scanner. Move the switch back and forth a few times and then leave it in the locked position. Another possibility is that you are scanning heavy items such as books. If too much weight is placed on the scanner glass, then pressure could be enough to prevent the scanning element from moving as it should.

The code 201 sometimes can indicate a power issue...meaning the scanner is not getting enough power. Try connecting the usb cable to a different port on the computer (preferrably directly to the computer and not through a USB hub).

Problem with new set

Sounds like the lock-switch is in the locked position. This is on the bottom of the scanner. Move the lock-switch back and forth a few times and then leave it in the unlock posotion. Try scanning again.

If you are scanning a book, it may be too heavy and putting enough pressure on the scanner that it is preventing the scan head from moving fully. Try scanning with nothing on the glass to see if it does the same thing.
