Question about Lexmark X5250 All-In-One InkJet Printer

2 Answers

I just ordered a new Lenovo computer with Windows 7. It does not have a built in FAX modem, so at Lenovo's suggestion, I ordered an external FAX modem, and was told to order part #924891 from I followed the instructions that came with the CDW product and can't get my FAX going. Their instructions do NOT give advice for Windows 7. Is there some link I can get which will enable me to FAX from my Lexmark x5250? Thanks, George

You can go to their website and download the device driver
or you can use the disc which you would have got with the product when you use the disc it will give you on screen prompts for installation.
Since you have bought a product from them call their helpline and they will help you to set it up since they suggested you to buy it.

    Thanks for the response.

The disc that came with the FAX modem doesn't contain instructions for Windows 7 - only previous versions of Windows. I had asked them some three time whether their product support Windows 7 - each time, they said someone would call me back and no one every did.

I did try the disc, but my system not only froze, the mouse pointer disappeared. The only way I could recover was to pull the plug - tried again, same result.

I do intend to call Lenovo when business resumes on Tuesday (holiday on Monday up here in Canada), and I have an e-mail into the modem supplier.

Thanks again for the response - the problem isn't fixed yet, though!

There isn't much chance to get a patch from the Lexmark to Windows 7. Your best bet is to contact Lenovo to either get a compatible unit, or your money back. Here is their support page:
In the meantime, you could always temporarily hook up the Lexmark to an older computer (version of Windows). Good luck, and hope this helps.

    If I understand you, either:
    a) the part number for the external modem was not a good one from Lenovo in which case I was given bad advice,
    b) I should ask for a refund of the new Lenovo, which is not acceptable to me,
    c) Get a new Lexmark machine,
    d) Do something else.

The link you sent along is much appreciated, but too difficult to follow.

    Any feedback?

By the way, this new computer (3853-CTO) is the only computer I have, so there's no possibility of attaching the Lexmark X5250 to another computer,

Fax from computer

First, you will need a USB fax modem. Then you use Windows Fax & Scan program to create/forward new fax documents, or even send a file as a fax or email.

Setting up your external modem to work with an internet telephone line is simple. Simply put a 2 way splitter into the internet modem telephone jack. Plug your telephone into one input and the external fax modem into the other. Then you can even dial from your computer routine telephone calls too.

My computer does not recognize my modem so I can send a fax.

2 completely different technologies.
FAX uses phone line (analogue) and router is digital.
It's one or the other.
Plugging what is essentially a modem into another modem was never going to work.
Scan and email is much faster and easier.
Or FAX to FAX through phone line.

Does Windows 7 have the ability to send and

Well Yes, if you have a Modem, You can connect a Modem & then one can get software that you can use as a Fax machine. Also I believe there is a Built In Fax software too. However I recommend a third party setup. There are lots of really good FREEWARE Fax programs. Ensure they work with Win 7.

I need to find drivers for Lamaqq 56k v.90 SGS External USB Data/Fax Modem. I have windows 7 Toshiba laptop

You could be out-of-luck, since the '' web-site is no longer owned by Lamaqq -- it now is a "place-holder" web-site.

but this page only has device-drivers up to Windows XP -- no Vista and no 7 support, but the XP drivers can be tried.
