Question about Canon SPEEDLITE 580EX TTL Flash
You will have to disassemble the unit to see if acid leaked in the circuits and damaged them if so you can either replace the parts by shopping at radio shack and replacing all the damaged components or you will have to replace the entire unit if you don't feel comfortable trying to repair the unit some parts might have the numbers eroded off from the acid or a damaged circuit board and the unit will be difficult to repair and further total replacement would be warranted you can find them on ebay.com here is the search settings hope this helps.
