Question about Canon BJC-85 InkJet Printer

I have an error code to change the printhead, but the cartridge carrier will not center.

I believe that there must be some way to make the ink cartridge center by some combination of pushing the power, cartridge, and resume buttons.

I have my printer working now. I used a modified version of your suggestion and it worked! So much for needing a new processor board. Thank you!

You can try these steps: - turn off the printer and remove the power adapter for about 1-2mins - check for obstructions inside the printer - lift the printer upside down and shake the printer sideways (in this way, it will re-align those mechanisms that are not aligned right inside the printer) - manually move the cartridge carrier to the center then remove the cartridges. check if the carrier would move if the cartridges are out - clean the encoder strip (translucent strip that runs from the left part of the printer to the right). you can clean it using a dry, lint-free cloth. from the left part of the printer, use this cloth to pinch the strip and then pull your fingers across it towards the right hand side of the printer. And do it on the other side too.

If the power is one and the carrier will not center, then the unit needs a new control board..if under warranty then have it exchanged at place of purchase. If not, you will have to have it repaired by Cannon or replace it with a new one.

There is nothing more you can do if the controller board is bad.

There are no combination of button that will force the unit to center the carrier.

Glad you got it fixed, that's a rarity that you were able too.

I changed my ink and now it says cover open when its not and nothing will work now

The problem could be due to a communication failure between one of the printheads (cartridges) and the All-In One (AIO) or by a short in one if the printheads. Please follow the steps below to identify and fix cartridge issues:

  1. Make sure the printer is on.
  2. Open the printer cover. The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position, unless the All-In-One is busy. Note: If the carrier does not automatically move to the center, turn off the printer or unplug the printer from the power source and then carefully slide the carrier to the center.
  3. Remove both cartridges from the carrier.
  4. Close the printer cover.
  5. Re-brick your printer by pulling out the power supply - black box behind the printer where the power cord is plugged in to, and re-plug after 30 seconds.
  6. When the printer turns on, reinsert one cartridge first. Close the printer cover and check for any errors.
  7. If no error appears, reinsert the other cartridge. Close the printer cover.
  8. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear with a new genuine Lexmark cartridge. Try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.
