How high of a gigabyte does the motherboard support for hard disk drives? Do you need a newer controller? Do you need to install the driver for the drive or boot from a boot disc to install the drive?

Wont reconize

Probably not the right answer for your problem. Mine is an external 1 TB Simple Drive. Mine wouldn't respond at all. I unplugged the power cable from the back of the hard drive and replugged it in and instantly it worked (with the computer and hard drive plugged in). I had tried rebooting the computer, plugging/unplugging over and over into the computer and that didn't work.

My computer will not recognize my external hard drive

the external hard drive's motherboard is burnt take it apart (this will be a little hard but it will come apart) after you take apart u will see it is just an internal hard drive in a case so either...

1) put it inside your computer as an internal or..
2) buy a new external hard drive case (that will have a new hdd motherboard in it)

after you install it either way your computer will reconize the hd and WORK i done this just yesterday.

Need new laptop harddrive

Go to either bestbuy.com or compusa.com and look for the hard drive there. The hard drive will be cheaper going thru either of those places. Also check out pricewatch.com cause you can compare prices there. Also go thru google and check out the shopping results of the hard drive your looking for as well.

Lots of places to check and the hard drive will definitely be cheaper then going thru HP.

Does not reconize hard drive

turn off the laptop and then take out the hard drive from the laptop. Go ahead and reseat it back into its slot and then turn on the laptop and press F2 to go into the BIOS. It should see it in there. If it doesn't then you know the hard drive is bad and will need to be replaced.

Hard drive not noticable

Go into the BIOS and see if the hard disk is detected.
You most likely have a faulty hard disk.
You can also test the hard drive by inserting it into a USB hard drive adapter and then plug it into a working computer's USB port. If this computer cannot see this device as an external drive and cannot see the contents of the hard drive, then it is definitely faulty. You need to purchase a new hard drive and install Windows to get your Dell operational again.

Won't reconize DVD burner

Well, the CD ribon cable goes into the IDE 2 slot on the Mainboard and the furthest connector on the other end is the master, the second one closest to the board is the Slave connector. The CD drive has a jumper on the back between where the ribbon and the power connector go, on the case some where it should have a diagram showing the jumper setting to put it in as master or slave. Set it accordingly.

Same with Hard drives.

If the Hard drive has a diferent Cable like a SATA, then be sure to get a SATA as the new one.

Now the IDE cables may be bad check them for damage just to be on the safe side.
