Question about Dryers

1 Answer

I have a GE dryer (DCVH660EHOWW) that makes a squeeking sound when running (louder when the wet, and heavier, load of laundry is first put in). I'm assuming it is either bearings that hold the drum or a belt of some kind. I'm fairly handy and don't mind opening up the dryer but would appreciate some guidance on what to look for, and whether this dryer can be reassembled (given the control panel on top, etc.) Thanks.

Dryer turns and heats, but makes a very loud squeaking (or should I say, SCREECHING) noise. The heavier the load, the louder the squeaking.

Does it sound like a belt ?
Or does it sound like metal ?
Might need to replace the drive belt..
Or - it could be the bearings..

Hope this helps !!

GE dryer is getting louder and louder - not a squeek just motor seems to be running louder

THERE ARE THREE POSSIBLILITY. THE BLOWER WHEEL IS LOOSE AND BANGING ON THE VENT. THE BEARING FOR THE TUMBLER IS BAD, MAKING A LOUD SCRAPING NOISE. ROLLER BEARING IS BAD. WORSE CASE, THE MOTOR IS GOING BAD. GOOD LUCK

Constant squeeking while drying clothes

It's most likely the roller bushigs/axles which need lubricating -- they've probably not failed yet, but will if ignored.

They squeak more when clothes are wet because of more weight.

I'd also lubricate the motor while your in there.

GE electric dryer is squeaking. It seems like it sqeaks loudest when the clothes are wet.

It sounds as though the bearings are going bad. You will need to check if they can be lubed. Most bearings in this type of environment (lint, dirt) are sealed. The reason why it's louder while the clothes are wet is because they are heavier.
