Question about Maximum Thetford Porta Potti 365 Portable Toilet

2 Answers

Using water line direct hook-up at campsite to trailer. The toilet has lost some of its water pressure when flushing. The faucets that use the same water-in line hookup have not lost any water pressure. So problem seems to be isolated to toilet. Is there something that needs cleaned or a common problem / part to be replaced

Hi. First of all check to be sure that there are no kinks in the hose, and that the faucet is turned fully on. Also consider that you may be tapping into a system that does not have as much pressure as others do.

Finally check to see that the toilet is filling to the level it is supposed to fill to. Generally, no matter how slowly the tank fills, once full the toilet will flush properly. If the toilet is not filling to the full setting, you can adjust that. If you do not have the owner instruction manual for your toilet, get back to me with your brand and model. J.

Thanks, the model we have does not have a fill bowl it circulates directly around the bowl from the in-line. We recently dumped the holding tank but the lights still indicate 3/4 full. I wonder if pressure is autmatically reduced if system thinks holding tank is full?

Hi

The toilet could have a partial clog or the actual clog could be downstream from the toilet. Fill a 5 gallon bucket of water and dump it into the toilet as fast as possible with minimum splashing. If the flush is more vigorous, then it is probably not a clog. If water backs up into the bowl and drains slowly, it is a clog. Please follow the troubleshooting steps provided in the article provided bellow:

Sounds like you have a low water pressure problem. Have the city come out to do a water pressure test, should be around 80 psi for good flow to all fixtures.

Hi cssweet12...
Look for a switch (inside cabinet, inside storage area, etc.) to turn the water pressure on from the pressure pump built into the camper..it will fill you toilet bowl with water one you have the system pressurized.
Trace your water line to locate your pump.

I have what is known as a kohler ultraflush on my bill of sale, that is a 2 piece elongated model. Not sure if it's called the Cimmaron or not. Anyway, it's not flushing with the same force that it did...

Hi, W/D here.

Three things can affect the flushing force of an ultraflush:
1. The amount of water going into the bowl from the tank. Check to make suer that the water level in the tank is up to the fill line. Normally the line is cast into the inside of the tank, but may be on the tube. Adjust if low.
2. The supply water pressure. An ultraflush requires 25 psig pressure to provide the assist in flushing. Make sure that your toilet water supply line valve (at the wall) is fully open. If so, check your water supply pressure. The easiest way is to install a gauge on an outside faucet (you can get a gauge in the sprinkler section of the hardware store, and it attaches to a faucet). You may need to replace your flexible water supply line; they can collapse internally, or get debris in them.
3. Restrictions in the outflow. A bit harder to check, but the tell-tale sign would be if the water level rises significantly, and drains slowly.
My best guess is that the assist pressure is low, and I'd look for restrictions in the supply side first.

Best regards, --W/D--

it is likely required. many new faucets have what's called a pressure balance valve that helps prevent scalding by lowering the pressure of hot when the cold pressure drops (due to a toilet flush or other water being run). Because you have pressure to only one side, that can cause the valve not to provide the necessary volume.

EcoQuantum B8100 is junk in my opinion. There is an obvious design flaw in the handle. The flush/no flush problem lies there. If you contact the company, you can get another handle from them, and problem will be solved. However, it WILL happen again in a year or so, and you will come full circle. Their number is 1-800-391-9821.

This is a common problem with this type of shower mixer valve. They are not very good at regulating with pressure change. Your options are somewhat limited to not flushing the toilet or using any other taps when in use, repalce the mixer valve for a modern ceramic unit or installing a 2 vane hot & cold shower pump.

SHOWER HOT WATER SCALDING

hi as you are probably aware ,when the toilet is flushed the water pressure to the shower is reduced so you get hot/scalding water unfortunatly there is NO easy solution you could put a needle valve in the supply to the toilet and with trial and error by turning the valve down reach a compromise between the time it takes to fill the flushing tank and the shower temp the only real solution is to feed the toilet and shower off independent supplies but in most houses this is impractical if not impossible silk090

When hot water is on & toilet flushed the temp drops

Check strainers and screens into the sink, at the spout and into the hot water heater. Sediment buildup could be limiting the flow which woul make the system more susceptible to pressure drop when the toilet is flushed.
