I can not load videos from the camera onto my mac. It keeps saying that they are not movie files

When I connect my camera to my mac the videos will not transfer over. This is what happens: When I connect the camera it loads onto the desktop as "untitled." I click on it and go to the Sd-Video folder. In that folder are more folders with PRG00 as the titles. When I open one there are three different types of extensions: .moi, .mod, .pgi. When I drag them to the desktop the .mod files read: There is no default application specified to open the document :MOV001.MOD" The .moi and .pgi both read "The movie could not be opened. This is not a movie file" I have tried to switch the .moi files to .mov and .avi and I still can not open any of the files. I tried using Quicktime unsuccessfully.

Thank you very much! I downloaded the first two applications you suggested from squiddo and the videos are now playing. Thank you!

Maybe they are not detected by the cable ...I would insert the card (the SD card ) directly into the card reader and copy them from the card ...If you are sure that he videos were saved on the card ...and they are visible on the camera's playback ..than it has to be seen cause this model of the camera takes videos in mpeg2 format and this is a very common format ...all computers can play them back ..and see them with almost al players ..
you can though try to install a codec for the divx and see if with the codec they are visible .....from the forums I read about they all say thay had problems in Imovie..cause it do not reads the mpeg 2 formt ..and it supposed to ger a codec for mpeg2 in quicktime...and it costs about 20 $ ..but it will let you import them in Imovie..but Im not sure about the length f the files after you save them ...It may save them in another format like ..DV and will be almost huge ..
But if you only want to keep them in this format and be able to watch them ..than the codec will fix it ..
http://www.squidoo.com/VideoOnMac
Also you will see a free one ..the second..named..mpeg streamclicp ...it supposed to let you see them and import for conversion into DV format ..try it also if you think that you have enough space ..cause it may make them large ..but good quality ..

    http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Video/VLC-M...
This one is a player for mac that is suposed to have the codec inside for this format ..
In the last solution ..download them or copy them from the card into a windows computer ..and convert them into a format that is readable in Mac ...like avi ..or what ever you usually use...there are free converters on google search ..

How do I change the setting to get a smaller pixal for movies? Everytime I go to upload movies onto my computer it says the files are too large so I can't transfer them.

Instead of using Nikon Transfer NX or another picture transfer software, drag and drop the folder on your camera directly to your computer. I will explain. When you connect your camera to your computer, your computers plug-n-play software (this is about the same for a PC or Mac) recognizes the presence of your camera's SD memory card and treats it as it treats any memory device such as an external hard drive. As a result, using Explorer on a PC or Finder on a Mac, you can open the device and any folders on that device and drag and drop it into a location of your choice on your hard drive. Once it is on your hard drive, you should be able to open and play your video on any video player program.

Best MKV Lossless Conversion to Play onto Western Digital Media Player Plus

Lossless MKV Converter for Mac Lion and Windows 7-Final Mate
My understanding on Conversion and Rewrapping HD videos to MKV

Do you feel puzzled when there are some sayings about AVCHD to MKV conversion with lossless quality? Actually, it may indicate two kinds of conditions. One is to convert the MTS/M2TS files to MKV with re-encoding, which may take a long time for transcoding. There is another method to get the format change in seconds, i.e. to remux AVCHD to MKV with rewrapping. While there are some friends asking me about the remuxing camcorder videos to MKV, here I would like to share with you my understandings on the video conversion and rewrapping.

With the video conversion, there are video conversion tools on Windows and Mac. Here I would like to talk about AVCHD to MKV lossless conversion with rewrapping.

Benefits of remuxing videos to MKV:
1. Super fast speed, and just a few seconds needed.
2. Retain raw quality without transcoding.
3. Keep file in small size.

Why rewrap camcorder videos to MKV?
Even though some players are supposed to play AVCHD camcorder files in .mts or .m2ts format, some may also face problem when playing the MTS/M2TS files. For example, the Western Digital Live Plus, Eminent HD media player cannot play some AVCHD files.

How does it work to rewrap/remux videos to MKV?
Aunsoft Final Mate can pick the video data and audio data of the source file, and use the MKV container to keep the video data and audio data. In this way, there is no compression of the video and audio data. Only the container is changed from .mts or .m2ts to .mkv.

If you are using Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, 10.6 Snow Leopard or 10.5 Leopard, the easy steps below will help you choose lossless MKV output with Aunsoft Final Mate for Mac. For Windows 7 users, Aunsoft Final Mate for Windows would work as lossless MKV converter with similar process.

First, connect your camcorder to Mac/PC via USB cable, follow the Final Mate camera wizard to import AVCHD footage to the program. Choose the clips from the camcorder tab, drag and drop to the timeline to create a lossless movie. Click the icon next to the movie name on the Movie tab, and then choose MKV format. The click the Export button below the volume option, and the HD video will be remixed to MKV file will be ready in a few seconds.

The image below shows that the 3-minute movie could be rewrapped from MTS to MKV within 3 seconds. Give it a try and hope it helps.

Tips:
For users with JVC camcorders with MOD or TOD as video files, Aunsoft Final Mate would also help you remux MOD/TOD videos to MKV for easier playback and sharing.

Is sdr-h90p/pc compatible with mac apple macintosh?

Your cam can be connected to a mac as an external HDD. Just copy files on Your mac then edit it, for example, with iMovie. Here is a trick. Your movie must be converted to .mov files, so:
Open video file in a quicktime. Press "save as". In a menu select .mov as file type. In "Advanced settings" UNMARK the option "make te movie self-contained". So, You'll get a small .mov file, connected with Your original file. This .mov file now You can drag'n'drop onto iMovie and edit it.
Regards.

Want to convert MP4 to DVD on Mac OS X?
MP4 is the official multimedia container for MPEG-4 video and audio, which is widely used on iPod, iPhone, iTunes, PlayStation Portable (PSP), etc. If you have a few of MP4 videos and movies and want to watch with DVD players connected with TV on the big screen, or to keep the movies, share with friends and family, burn MP4 to DVD is a good choice.

Step 3. Create DVD Menu (Optional)
This Mac DVD Creator also allows you to create your own DVD menu with rich selections of DVD menu template. Simply click “Menu” button to select one and set the “Frame”, “Button” and “Text” to customize your DVD menu

Step 4. Start to burn

When you download your video files onto your pc and go to find them in the prg files you notice two kinds of files. The big ones with extension .mod are the video files. I've had success changing the file extension to .mpg and then importing it to your other editing software programs. Hope this helps.
