If the cleaner is running in circles to the left the chain has come off the double side. To fix take bottom off and place chain where it is riding on the center sproket. To test turn one wheel and all wheels should turn. Also on the axel blocks the wheels are attached to can be adjusted to allow more tension on the chain.

That was the problem. Chain off the sprocket. Put it back on and eventually installed a new chain tensioner kit. Also, ours was circling to the right, not the left. Appreciate the tip!

Try these tips for correcting this issue with these pool cleaners. First, verify that the feed hose reaches all areas of the pool and add more hose if necessary. Also, make sure that your thrust jets are not set in a position that makes the cleaner move in circles. Check for water inside the cleaner float. Make sure that the filter bag is not full and weighing the cleaner down on one side. Make sure that the hose floats are spaced evenly. Check to be sure that the wheel RPM is not too high

Sport 3900 is doing wheelies will not stay level to clean

1. Check the wheel RPM. If not in the 30-36 RPM range, refer to the manual for adjusting the wheel RPM.

2. Adjust the thrust jet downward.

3. Verify the backup valve is cycling. Lift the valve out of the water and watch the jet. It should come on and go off.

4. Check for water inside the head float.

5. Empty the filter bag.

You can download the 3900 Manual from the Polaris site
http://www.polarispool.com/Pressure/Polaris-3900.aspx

It will show you how to check the wheel rpm and how to adjust the thrust jet and check and adjust the float.

My Polaris 3900 Sport is on it's side. I turn it back up on all 3 wheels and it hits the side of the pool and goes back on it's side again...going in circles.

With these automatic pool cleaners, if they are not staying firmly on the bottom of the pool, it is most likely that there is air in the appliance casing.Try submerging your cleaner. Keep the cleaner vertical while you are putting it in slowly to let the air out. Ensure the unit sinks to the bottom of the pool.

Hello. i have a Polaris 3900 Sport - 1 yr old. lately i notice that the drive chain is coming off of one of the sprockets, so that only the single wheel is driving and the cleaner just runs in circles. ...

Im trying to fix the similar problem...the sprocket on the gearbox is worn Part# 393-204. Unfortunately. u have to buy the whole gearbox. BS in my opinion. U should just be able to buy the sprocket...Im trying to figure how to do this with Polaris.

My polaris is doing circles. it appears the single wheel doesnt move like it used to

i've just discovered i have this same issue with my polaris 3900. the machine is less than 3 months old. there is a small metal "gear" in the wheel hub just behind the blue "hub cap". a single screw holds it on the axle. it appears that the gear has worn the out around the hub causing it to slip and not be able to drive the wheel.. it appears that the solution would be to buy another wheel.

It goes in circles. It just makes tight turns on the bottom of the pool.

A cleaner going in circles is an indication of a problem with the drive mechanism on the same side as the unit turns. If cleaner uses drive belts, check them for tension or wear. If direct drive, it may be either the drive linkage or a damaged/worn impeller. Unless your are confident with repairing the unit yourself, this is a job for an experienced pool equipment technician. You can still troubleshoot the problem by running the unit on its side in shallow water and observing the relative drive speeds on each side.
