HI. This code is in reference to a failed touch pad. Now; If your unit is equipped with an all in one assembly(touch pad and main control board are combined as one assembly), This will require you to replace the entire main board assembly. In order to isolate the problem if your unit is equipped with a touch pad that is not attached to the main board, follow the procedure below.

1. Disconnect power to the range (unplug the range power cord or turn the power off to the range at the circuit breaker). It is very important that the power running to the range has been disconnected, so please double check before continuing this procedure.
2. Now; Gain access to the control panel.
3. Disconnect the touch pad (also called keypad or membrane switch) ribbon from the ERC.
4. Make sure there are no lose wires, or anything else that may cause a short when power is turned back on. Assemble the control panel back the way it was after you have successfully disconnected the touch pad ribbon.
5. Turn the power back on.
6. Wait for at least one hour to see if the F1 code comes back (usually accompanied by a beeping sound).
7. If F1 comes back, replace the ERC. If it does not, replace the touch pad.

  • NOTE_ Again; This test is not needed if your unit is equipped with a ERC that has an incorporated touch pad. You will only need to replace the entire ERC assembly in this case.

If you would like to be directed to the proper replacement part, please, post the entire model number that is associated with the affected unit. That model ID is very important when searching for parts. Please post this much need information if you seek the correct replacement part needed.

Maytag electric range shows F1 error message and beeps every hour or so. we've checked the fuses and they seem okay.

F1 code means a defective touchpad or membrane, usually the touch pad. Here is a simple test that you can do to determine whether the clock or the touchpad are defective when the display reads F1: Disconnect the power to the range
Gain access to the back of the ERC (clock)
Unplug the touchpad ribbon connector from the clock
Make sure everything is clear & will not short out when the power is turned back on to the range. Replace any covers removed to gain access to the ERC.
Turn the power back on to the range
Watch for the F1 and listen for the beepIf you get the F1 and beep, replace the ERC (clock)
If after approx. 60 min. you do not get the F1 fault, replace the touch pad. Note: some ranges incorporate the touchpad and the clock as one part so F1 means a bad clock control.

We have a beeping sound and an error message F1-8

The code F1-8 means you have a shorted keypad. Check to see if steam or other moisture is getting into the clock assembly. Replace the keypad if necessary.

F1 Error Code on MayTag range

migs, on a Maytag the F1 indicates there is a problem with the touch-pad or control itself. Usually, it's the touch pad. Try killing the power to the range and remove the touch pad ribbon from the control board. Clean it with an eraser. Power back up and see if the error comes back. If it does, remove the ribbon cable again and power up with-out it attached. If the same error still returns, then I would suspect the control board itself. Catriver..post back.
