Question about Cell Phones

1 Answer

The "other" email account (POP) on my iPhone keeps shutting down. I have deleted and re-created the account SEVERAL times. It was working fine before. I've read that a "corrupted" email might be causing this. I have no idea which email that might be, and I don't want to delete all of my email on the home email server to try and fix what appears to be an Apple problem. Can someone help?

Thanks to Ginko for his help with this issue. The iphone upgrade to 4.0 seems to have fixed this problem. (And 4.0 has a feature that combines multiple email inboxes, which is pretty cool!)

If the Iphone is shutting down, then the Iphone must be reset to factory settings.

Do a complete backup of the Iphone using Itunes. This will also save messages and settings. See:
iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring your iPhone

After the backup reset the iphone and restore the backup.

I went to iTunes and saw that I could upgrade to latest 4.0 version.
Have completed that process, and currently the email Acct is staying up and working properly. If it happens again, I will follow your instructions. I'm thinking the upgrade process probably accomplished the steps you outlined?

I am glad to know that the upgrade fixed the issue. Apple updates continuously fix bugs and defects. Let me know if the problem comes back.

Why do I get a pop up indicating that smpt wants the pass word of a deleted g mail account when sending a e mail from my other working e mail account

The account must still be in settings somewhere. And it's SMTP, Simple Mail Transfer Protocol :>)

On a cellphone a Hard Reset will fix that type of error. You should get a prompt to backup, but it may well backup the ghost account.

Email deleted on the server still remains in my iphone

That's strange. Except if you have the iPhone email settings set to POP instead of IMAP ...
Without knowing how much you have troubleshooted this already, I'll suggest making sure that IMAP is ENABLED on ALL your Gmail accounts and ALSO that IMAP is enabled on all your iPhone email accounts.
If IMAP is working properly you should stay in synch, no matter how you check or delete individual emails.
If you have IMAP enabled on one of the Gmail accounts, you can still access it via POP settings with the iPhone. If this is the setup, then when you delete an email on the server, it will not be synced when you check your mail on the iPhone, but instead you'll just retrieve any new mails that hadn't already been retrieved previously. However, if you delete a mail message on your iPhone in this scenario, it will not "return."
Good luck!

I have accidentally changed the port setting on my iPhone.

Is it possible for you to create another email account and forward all your required emails to that one.
There are plenty of options on the web to create second, third or more emails accounts for yourself.
Use one as a temporary store or archive.
then do what you have to do with your original account.

When I plug in my Iphone computer shuts down

Unfortunately firmware updates and driver updates for IPhones can be fickled on Windows OS, try rollback the firmware/driver update and see if you are still getting the error. If not you may want to research if the IPhone site has a FAQ or Troubleshooting solution for this.

When I plug in my Iphone computer shuts down

Make sure you've got the latest version of Itunes installed, if you have Itunes on your PC at all.

Try changing your drive letters: Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Performance and Maintenance. Make sure you are in Category View. Click Administrative Tools, double-click Computer Management, and then click Disk Management in the left pane. Right-click the drive, the partition and then click Change Drive Letter and Paths. Click Change. Click Assign the following drive letter if it is not already selected, click the drive letter that you want to use, and then click OK. Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the drive letter change.

Try the IPhone now.

When I plug in my Iphone computer shuts down

1. Sometimes iphone connection software( espescially on the camera roll) can be confused with software from other drivers such as webcam drivers. LOGITECH ESPESCIALLY
2. If you do have logitech installed or any other webcam then uninstall all software from this.
3. To do this : Go to start, control panel, add/remove programs and select the logitech or any other software affiliated with the webcam . Uninstall it and then restart your computer.
4. Your problem should now be fixed.

p.s. I had been trying for ages until i found this simple solution which worked instantly.
