If you need to ask "how", I recommend that you STOP and take the computer to a qualified technician, to get the work done safely & correctly, without breaking anything.

Hi there,

You'll need a screwdriver and you'll need to open up your notebook to get underneath the keyboard. It may also require removing most of the hardware components to get to it.

Hope this helps.

How to replace keyboard on sony vgn-nr498e, broken left hand shift key, i need to replace entire keyboard

If you have the new keyboard, look at the bottom and locate the screw sockets. On the laptop at the bottom, match and locate the approximate location of where each screws are mounted. Remove only those screw. On some laptops, you might need to remove the keyboard top frame - if they are mounted with screws, remove them as well. Some laptops have a small picture or symbol of a keyboard for each screw that needs to be removed on the bottom of the laptop.

It sounds like the camera may need to be reseated on the motherboard. Could be a loose connection with the cable. You will need to get the keyboard and power strip off and access the cable from there. The cable runs from the right side of the display across the palmrest to the center lower part of the motherboard and plugs into a small flat socket. To get the power strip off, remove the battery, next...there are several screws you will see, all of those screw need to be removed, there may be 5-6. Now take the access cover off the memory/wireless compartment. There is a screw inside a tube marked with a keyboard symbol, this screw has to come out. Now turn the laptop over and pry the right side of the power strip up gently, just position it forward toward the screen just enough for the keyboard to flip up. Now shift the keyboard toward the screen so that the hold down tabs at the lower part clear the palrest. Now under the keyboard is the flat socket holding the keyboard cable, push the retaining tabs on both sides of the socket toward the screen, this releases the cable. Lift the keyboard free. Youcan leave the power strip where it is, it does not to be removed. Now look to the right side of the display at the right hinge. The flat cable is the camera cable, it is usually bundled next to the two wireless antennae leads. Follow the flat cable down to where it plugs into the motherboard. Pull the plug out and give the socket a blow of air to clean dust and debris. Now plug the cable back in and make sure it seats well. Put everything back together, go to HP and make sure you download the "Cyberlink" Youcan software drivers and the camera should work fine.

Need to remove my keyboard on Compaq Presario C501nr.

Remove battery.  Notice 5 phillips head screws labeled M2.5X4.  Of the 5, 2 have arrows pointing to them.  These 2 screws hold down the cover plate above the top of the keyboard, the one that has the 5 buttons for (left to right) WiFi, Power, Vol down, Vol up, and Mute.  Carefully pry up the cover after the 2 previously mentioned screws are removed.  You will see 4 screws at the top of the keyboard.  Remove these screws and gently lift up and slide up the keyboard.  Once the tabs at the bottom of the keyboard are clear, look to where the ribbon cable from the keyboard attaches to the socket on the motherboard.  Gently slide the very small tabs on the socket outward.  They only move about 1/16".  The ribbon cable should be free and you should be able to remove the keyboard assembly completely.

Compaq presario v6000 laptop powering down with no warning

If not, then the keyboard cable has probably come loose.
Look for some way to remove the keyboard. Sometimes a screw from underneath, sometimes two or three small catches at front of keyboard (small gaps in metal plate in front of space bar). Sometimes top plastic bar above keyboard slides sideways.

Keyboard cable uses goes into a header socket - to refit:
Switch off and remove battery and power first!
1. Prise up each end of the socket with a blunt knife - the outer part of the socket should move up a few mm
2. Push keyboard cable down fully
3. Push down each end of the header socket so it is flush with the lower part of the socket.
4. Test keyboard

Keyboard doesnt work....

May be something spilled on keyboard or maybe loose cable under keyboard.
Some keyboards can be easily removed either with catches at front below space bar or sometimes screw on underside releases the keyboard. Others have a sliding plastic bar above keyboard which then removes to release keyboard.

Find keyboard ribbon cable and check it is in socket OK on mainboard. If not, gently prise up each end of the socket which will release the ribbon cable - push ribbon cable down into socket - press down socket edges to trap cable into socket again.

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's probably the power socket on the laptop not the power jack on the AC adapter. You need to open the laptop by removing the casing screws. Then remove the motherboard from the base so a new socket can be soldered on.
