The bearing in the a/c compressor could be going bad. Try adding a few ounces of oil to the a/c to get rid of this noise by adding a small can of r134a with oil.

Otherwise, the compressor may have to be replaced to eliminate the noise, if it's worth it to you to spend hundreds of dollars on it.

I wish you luck on this repair.

I have a 2005 6 cylinder chevy malibu. i have to jump it to start and when I do, it runs roughly for a few seconds and then makes a screeching noise and shuts off. the battery is good the starter is good....

What you have to do is take the drive belt off and a jumper cable hooked up see if it runs if it does it might be the alternator maybe going bad also spin the alternator while th belt is off and see if it makes noise

Humming sound coming from engine told it was the alternator

This noise could be the alternator, water pump, power steering pump, idler pulley or tensioner pulley. Sometimes an automotive stethescope is used to isolate noises around the engine.

First start of the day, engine fires up and runs well then stalls

This is a tough one to solve without hearing it myself. There are several things which will make noise, its the stalling that matters. I will give you 4 that can stall a car and make noise.
1.Traction control cutting off airflow to engine.
2.Automatic ride control pump pulling down alternator.
3.A/C pump locking up.
4.Bad Alternator
5.Bad fan clutch or water pump

You should go to Autozone or Oreillys for a free scan of your cars computer.

Check guages light comes on after short drive while engine is running, and the car died while driving on I-95 the lights started flickering getting dimmer. the radio would turn off when anything else...

It sounds like the Alternator is actually bad.
One great way to determine this:
Recharge the new battery with a trickle charge overnight. Make sure use remove the wires going to the Battery before recharging.
Replace the Battery Wires.
Get the Vehicle Started.
When it has Started: Leave it Running and Disconnect and Remove the Negative side of the Battery. If the Vehicle dies, it is the Alternator that is bad, and needs to be replaced..
The Battery starts that vehicle, and provides nominal power to certain accessories. The Alternator actual Runs the Engine and Recharges the Battery with a low trickled charge.

Car won't start dash board lights flashing makes clicking noise

Your battery is bad. If the car runs on a jump and stays running then it is the battery or a weak alternator. Autozone can test both for you and let you know which one it could be.

97 chevy lumina wont turn over

The starter solenoid will click when the battery is to low to start the car. Have the battery charged and load tested to make sure it's good. Check the charging system to make sure the alternator is good. Check the wire connections at the starter. If either is loose, the starter won't work.
With a full, known good battery, turn on the headlamps and try starting the engine. If the headlamps stay bright, the contacts in the solenoid are bad. If the headlamps dim greatly or go out, the starter is shorted out and must be replaced.
Also try turning the crankshaft manually with a breaker bar and socket if you suspect that the engine may have seized up.

Change alternator on 2003 chevy impala

here is a trick. While it is running, use a yardstick or wooden broom hande, and place it on the casting of the alternator or object you suspect is growling. You can hear the bad bearing amplified through the wood if you put your ear to it. It is a great way to pin point bad bearing noise

2000 Kia Sephia Noise underneath the alternator and fan belt

ok if the noise is there all the time then it may still be the alternator but do this if is not to check it yourself start the car turn the headlights on, if no nose, then turn on the heater, then turn on the a/c if the noise starts during any of this its probably going to be the alternator been through this all night tonight replaced the belts first and still has a loud screaching noise after I turn on the heater and or A/C you can have the alternator load tested for free at any Autozone if you have them around because alternators are about 175 new not cheap tell me about it as I have to buy one now but this how we eliminated the other stuff before spending a ton of money on it hope this helps have a great day
