BIOS boots itself. If it doesnt, I don't think you can actually detect this straight away.

When you turn on the computer, the BIOS preforms a POST (Power On Self Test). After successfull POST, BIOS turns the system over to the Operating System which then starts up everything. If it is as you said, there is no POST (and consequently, no report (a report would be a series of beeps)) If this is the case, you need a repacement board.

Where is the bios chip located?

That will vary depending upon the mainboard design, but it is always on the mainboard. Most laptops, and many desktop PC mainboards these days have permanently installed (soldered in) BIOS chips. Older PC mainboards, and a few odd newer ones are still socket-mounted for the ability for removal/replacement/reprogramming.

Reflash Via EPIA-M 1000g BIOS when board is dead

I'm writing this in the hope that others like me can resolv their problem with the dead EPIA-M mainboard. The symptoms where.. on power-up .. it would make 2 high pich beeps followed by 2 low pich beeps..turned out that is the error code for dead BIOS.
OK so u have a dead bios and a mobo that won't boot for various reasons.. from flashing a wrong or corrupted bios or else.
Apart from the other ways to go around the problem like buying a new chip already flashed or flash the chip with a dedicated flasher u can follow on this simple guide.
You should at least have some experience in DIY in computers .
1. Find a mobo of an old  pc that uses the same socket for the bios chip.if it uses award bios even better.I used a biostar p4m800-m7a mobo to do this.
No need for it to have a hdd or something special attached to it.. power source and cd or dvd/rom will do.
2. Try to see if it boots, if all ok..
3. Get you hands on the Hiren's boot cd..burn it and boot from cd..it has in the Dos program list... in the next page BIOS/CMOS UTILITIES. Select uniflash 1.4.. i did it with the 1.4 on the hiren's boot cd 10.1 maybe if they update it it will work also.It will tell you the name of the bios chip and some details..make a backup of original chip just in case.
4.On other pc download the 109.BIN file .. the bios file known to be stable for the EPIA-M board. You can find it on some forum.. i can't remember now..I thank them by the way.Same the file on a fat32 usb key.
5.On the surogate board with uniflash started.. comes the tricky part: u have to get hold of some good tools and pull the bios chip out while it's running... don't worry, nothing will happen.
6. Pull out the dead bios chip of EPIA-M and put it in the surogate board. These steps must be done with absolute care.If you think you can't do it, wait or call a friend with more experience or get hold of the right tools
7. Now with the dead bios chip in place.. select in uniflash, rediscover bios chip.. or something like that,..can't remember well.. but you get it when you see the screen... the sst bios of the EPIA-M NOW SHOWS UP...
8. select flash bios and select the file on the root of the usb key by typing C:\109.bin.. if no hdd attached.. the key is seen as C, otherwise use letter accordingly. It flashes the bios in less that 10 seconds.. and says ok.. power off surogate mobo.. replace bios chip with original.. and enjoy now your EPIA-M mainboard again.
If you'd like to thank me or ask details..mail me at www_offspring@yahoo.com

Intel 845gvsr mainboard no display problem

this problem is normal because of the BIOS chip failure normally

symptoms:
when u get ram out and start computer it gives beeps and when u put back the ram and power on PC it gives no beep no display.

Fix the problem:
tools required:
1. hot air gun
2. 512kb fresh bios chip/ if the old chip is right then no need of newer one
3. p3 mainboard (with the BIOS socket) for reprogramming the chip
4. dos bootable hard disk
5. bios bin file.
have not the file ,
don't worry: this file can be made from the bios chip of a working mainboard using the bios flash utility.
flashing software: best is Uniflash.

Procedure:
1. with hot gun, get the bios chip out of the board,
2. reprogramme the chio with correct bin file.
3. put the bios back

Reprogramming:
copy the file in dos bootable hd
run the hdd on p-3 board
pull the bios out of running board (with slight care)
put the 845gvsr bios chip in place of p-3 bios
run uniflash and flash the bios
power of p-3 computer and get bios out

Hello you have to seach at the manufactures of the pc site:

http://support.ts.fujitsu.com/download/index.asp?lng=DE&Level1=&LNID=987

By selecting the pc model manualy, or enter the serial number:

http://support.ts.fujitsu.com/Content/IdentHelp.asp?lng=DE&LNID=920

The manual is here:

http://support.ts.fujitsu.com/download/ShowDescription.asp?SoftwareGUID=088398C8-3ED4-461F-82B5-E2BCD039846C

The bios upgrade is here:

http://support.ts.fujitsu.com/Download/ShowDescription.asp?SoftwareGUID=EC348E13-FB23-48A5-82EE-43DEC646B653

This mainboard is a oem board made for fujitsu, you can`t find anything, at the asus homepage.

Fujitsu has the whole support, for the mainboard.

Check the bios boot settings and check the IDE cable, and jumpers on the harddrive, BEFORE upgradeing the bios. The harddrive must be set as master:

In order so the mainboard can boot from it.

Good luck

Biospasword acer 5230extensa Problem ive vergot it

there is a very descriptive method outlined here
or
1. Disconnect the power supply and the battery.

2. Unplug and remove the keyboard.

3. In between the video chip and the keyboard connector you will see a set of 4 dip switches.

4. Move switch 1 ,up.

5. Re-start the laptop and press Ctrl+F2 simultaneously as it boots, this will get you into the BIOS.

6. Set the BIOS password to disable and press Enter.

7. The machine will ask you if you want to Exit and Save the Changes, click Yes.

8. It will then boot into Windows. Re-start the computer and if there is no password then you can proceed to step 9. If there is still a BIOS password then you must repeat steps 1-8 until the password is removed.

9. Back at the mainboard, push the switch at the number 1 slot down, back to its original position.

10. Re-start the laptop.

11. The Acer BIOS password should now have been removed and the machine should now boot straight into Windows.

I have a PCchips M701 that wont boot after long time I dint use.

It's unlikely that the BIOS itself has been "erased".
The BIOS is "software", recorded on a small "Eraseable Programmable Read Only Memory" chip.
It takes a piece of hardware, an 'EPROM-writer' to update the contents of the chip. Or, the BIOS can be updated by a "BIOS-update" from the manufacturer of the motherboard.

The BIOS has "settings" -- the battery on the motherboard should supply a "trickle" current to the chip that holds those "settings" -- like an alternator provides a "trickle" charge to recharge your automobile's battery.

Try using the "BIOS reset" jumper on the motherboard, to reset those "settings" to their default value, and then try to boot the motherboard.
