Question about Cameras

1 Answer

The power turns on but the shutter door will not open or extend, it prompts to turn off the power and turn power back on. I am able to see the photos thru the home button already taken that are stored on the card and do the other functions, but am unable to shoot new pictures because the shutter door remains closed. You can hear it trying to open but it will not.

Usually when you see this either the shutter cover motor has a problem or the cover is jammed. You can try gently helping the cover open but don't force it.

You haven't mentioned the camera model so I can only give you some generic advice here. Basically on a lower cost camera the cost to repair is more than just buying a new camera. Even with a mid price range camera you need to be careful with the cost of this type of repair. So the first thing you want to check is if you have any warrenty. This is covered. Some brands will offer a flat fee that fixes the camera regardless of whats wrong. Usually its around $120 or so. Next you want to check on the replacement cost. A newer camera may actually be cheaper than getting your old one fixed. And it should have better resolution and other feature as well. When you know those then you can deceide if it is worth fixing or to just replace.

It is a cyber-shot 8.1 pixels, optical zoom 5X , Full HD 1080 still image, smile shutter, super steady shot +ISO plus 3200 - it was a gift so I do not know the cost - so do not know if it would be better to buy a new one or fix........

    what is the comparison?

I am able to open the shutter "doors" easily but it will not extend - so it may very well be the motor as you stated.

I was using it fine on one shot and then it stopped working the next time I went to use it - did not drop it or anything.

It is 1 1/2 years old.

Will not display even there is power

Hi,

When you turn on the camera and the lens extends, there is a small protective shutter on the outside of the lens that should open. Turn the camea around and look into the lens. Did the protective shutter open?

If not, give it a little nudge. Sometimes they can stick. If it doesn't open, or if it does/is open and there is still nothing on the display, then there is probably a more serious problem internally.

Hope this helps
Randy

How to disassemble lens on a casio exilim ex-z75

Jim, I really wouldn't recommend this. It requires extreme patience and meticulous parts tracking. Note that junctions stated: "It's really hard to take apart,", and he ain't kidding.
Really recommend that you return to the remedies that you had been trying. Sometimes it requires many repeated tries to free the gunk from the shutter. I've found that for the smaller pocket cameras that the most effective solution seems to be extending the lens and tapping around the lens barrel with a pen/pencil. Then alternately opening the battery door with the camera turned on (no need to play with shutter modes). Then just alternate with tapping, battery door, tapping, battery door, and keep doing this until the shutter opens/closes. Once this happens, set the camera to continuous shutter mode and snap off about 100 pictures to final lubricate the shutter.Good Luck,t00nz aka CR

Lens will not extend

Hi:

You need to clean around the lense first. Blow high pressure air spray and get the most sand out of the lense you possibly can.

If it did not open 100%, try to pull it out NOT too hard. If the lese goes up and down and turns you should follow the lense while pulling it out.

When it is 100% out, (the way normally opens) Clean around the lense more.

Turn you camera on and off a few times. It should be back to normal.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DSC-W80 zoom extends, shutter opens, closes, zoom closes, 5x, won't work

Hey kbcinc,
I would try taking the battery out and waiting a minute and then reinserting the battery. Another option you have is to try and reinitialize the camera, but you would need access to the settings menu on the camera and it doesen't sound like you do. To initialize the camera go to main settings 1 and choose initialize. If this doesn't work I would bring it to an authorized service center to have it looked at.

Sincerely,
Allan

The only thing I can recommend is to manually push the cover open. But, it will probably stay that way, and not close.
