Question about Heating & Cooling

I have a 2000 (year) 30' Four Winds Hurricane Class A Motorhome and the airconditioning is not working in the front or back unit. I took it to an RV repair shop and they said they can re-charge the driver's unit, but can't re-charge the back unit in the living quarters, due to it being a model with a different freon set up. They said I would have to purchase a new model at $2000. What's the deal? Can it be re-charged? The motorhome is only 10 years old.

If someone replaced the rear unit with an a/c older than 1995 it is a possibility but I think they are feeding you some bull.Are you in Indiana?I found a link to Four Winds home website which is in Indiana.I would call them to find out.If you are in Indiana,I would call a dealer in another state.In 1995,they changed the freon from R-12 to R-134 so it should not be an issue unless it requires some lead-based Chinese freon or something like that(lol).It was well phased out by 2000.If it was replaced with the older freon system,I would say the dealer most likely did it and SHOULD be responsible.Did you buy this new or used?All a/c sytems work on the same basic parts but to hear a different freon set-up?I have never heard that one.Anyhow here is the link.Good luck and Travel on!Also as far as i know,with an even newer freon that came out/is coming out,there are only 3 different ones right now and the one before 1995's is not even manufactured anymore,so that still leaves 2.

    Wow, now that was a quick and educated response. Too bad you are not working at an RV Center here in Alaska. I would be your best customer. Anyhow, the couple I bought the motorhome bought it new off the lot and took very good care of it, so they were the only owners before me. I will contact the company per your link tomorrow and see what they say. I do not believe the unit was replaced at anytime. I don't think the RV Center even looked at it to be honest, the mechanic just said that based on what model and year I told him I had. I will let you know what I find out after my call. Thanks again.

    Something I thought of after I shut down my computer.First of all,it would be unethical for the dealer to even have replaced that with a pre-1995 unit.The different freon setup is not even plausible.Also,if the unit was not covered during the winter,it may be corroded beyond repair,but they probably would have told you that if that was the case.If a couple of parts were corroded,they could be replaced and would not require total replacement of the system.Glad I could help.Let me know how you make out.Do they make a cover for that a/c unit?If not,it should be covered when not in use for long periods.

Try the manufacturer first. Most have schematics you can download off the Internet or they will mail it ot you. No luck, google it. 90% of the time you can find one if you are persistent.

How do i find the circuit breaker on a 2007 four winds hurricane motor home?


Look in the owners manual. I'm sure any relevant information regarding fuses is there.
If manual is not available, go to Fourwinds website and download owners manual there.
If not available on their website, contact a local Fourwinds dealer for the manual.

could be possibly low on freon and they are self contained units you can put a saddle valve on it and try to put freon in it. If its r22 its the high dollar freon.......have an experienced hvac guy come out.

I am trying to find any type of RV manuals for my 31 ft 93 Four Winds P-30 chassis, any idea where I could find em?


Helm Publishing in the Detroit ,Michigan area does the reprints for many vehicles. If the company, Four Winds, is still in business-it would be the best bet.

If the company is not in business, sometimes Dealers carry several brands of RV's and they may have leftovers from a bankrupt company.

to relieve the brake pressure to move the vehicle , open the bleeder ******* at each wheel for a half second
but you will have to replace the failed hydro booster unit or you will get the same problem back or have no brake assist during braking

On my 28 foot Itasca motorhome the air conditioner is leaking water through the gasket on the roof. I pulled the inside cover off and took out the four big boltd holding the roof top section, but I can't...


You need to find where the drain is. The water should flow to a drain and not into the unit. Once you get the condensation draining properly you can use a good quality silicone to seat around the unit. You might check at a RV parts place and find a product they recommend for RV roofs. Hope this helps.

Portable generator pops breaker when temp is over 75 degrees


I take it you have RV plugged into generator. Hopefully direct with no extension cords. Are you using a 30 to 15 amp adapter to plug into generator? What is the rating of the breaker on the generator that keeps tripping, suspect it's only 15 amp?

ABS Light on 1996 Ford E350 (Tioga 24" motorhome) w/33K, 460ci,


I also have a 96' shasta RV 26' E350 Ford chassis... ABS light comes on whenever it feels like it. We have 20,000 miles on the RV. We love the Motorhome but am constantly worried about the light. Our mechanic said not to worry about it.. Not worth the expense to fix it. anyone have a clue? grandmanomi
