Question about Dell XPS M1330 Notebook

2 Answers

Dell xps m1330 has erratic usb ports. Sometimes they cease to work and then start again. After reboot most of the times they connect well with devices, but even then it's uncertain. Dell has changed the motherboard but still they malfunction. Only thing that works always is the cordless mouse. Thanks

It is also possible that the USB adaptors need to be checked if there is a contact issue. what you can try is to use an USB extentor and connect the device. If this works then the ports are fine and you need to check if the usb connection tracks are worn out. Always try to insert the device in the same position and not sideways. If not then reinstall your drivers , check if there is any virus/malware in the system, if so use backup/restore and try. Since after rebooting the device works then it can be if the OS software need reinstallation. So check this out. Good day

You need to update the BIOS of the computer. Log on to support.dell.com and look for the BIOS updates for your computer.
Once downloaded and saved on the computer run the update and leave the computer to complete the updated. It might restart a couple of times.
This should fix your issue.

How to reset dell xps m1330

Hello,

You may follow the steps mentioned below to restore the Dell XPS M1330 to its factory default:

1 Turn on the computer.

During the boot process, a blue bar with www.dell.com appears at the top of the screen.

2 Immediately upon seeing the blue bar, press <Ctrl><F11>.

If you do not press <Ctrl><F11> in time, let the computer finish starting, and then restart the

computer again.

NOTICE: If you do not want to proceed with PC Restore, click Reboot in the following step.

3 On the next screen that appears, click Restore.

4 On the next screen, click Confirm.

The restore process takes approximately 6-10 minutes to complete.

5 When prompted, click Finish to reboot the computer.

NOTE: Do not manually shut down the computer. Click Finish and let the computer completely reboot.

6 When prompted, click Yes.

The computer restarts. Because the computer is restored to its original operating state, the screens that

appear, such as the End User License Agreement, are the same ones that appeared the first time the

computer was turned on.

7 Click Next.

The System Restore screen appears and the computer restarts.

8 After the computer restarts, click OK.

9 You will need to run Windows Update as well as Live Update for your virus protection as these will be seriously out of date.

Hope this helps..

  • First purchase/get a usb mouse and plug it in. It may take a few minutes for it to start working. It will have to install the driver first.
  • This will allow you to get around in windows.
  • Now open your device manager
Windows xp – Start button>run> type devmgmt.msc
Vista/Windows 7 – start button> in the search box type devmgmt.msc
  • Look for a ! ony any device and right click, select update driver
  • If you do not see a ! on any device, your touchpad may simply be bad and need replaced.
  • In ebay search for; manufacturer, model, touchpad
replacement of the touchpad is a whole different set of instructions.

Boot into Safe Mode and change the video resolution to the lowest resolution supported. Reboot the machine normally. The problem should have disappeared. From here you can readjust your display resolution to any higher resolution supported by the system if you wish.

I want to reboot my laptop to the windows XP, im using Dell XPS M1330 with Vista home premium

Reboot? You mean restart? Click Start, click the arrow beside the Lock button and choose Restart. It's the same.

If you mean System Recovery (wiping out everything but the OS and making the PC new), then there must be a software like Recovery Manager. Search Start Menu.

As it is a Dell, you must have a recovery partition on the drive. It will be just as new.

Or use the set of CDs that you created when it was new, or one which you got with the PC. If you didn't get and you didn't even make it, ask Dell to send a set for your model.

If nothing works, then use a Vista installation disk that you can buy in a retail store. Note that you won't get the pre-installed software that you got from Dell when you removed the PC from the box.
