I had the same problem. It would not release the DVD because it was not ready. What worked for me, was to insert a VHS Movie and play it for a few seconds, than stop it using the remote, then Eject with the remote, and then after removing the Tape, I pressed the Open/DVD button on the unit and now it worked, it released the DVD

if it is really stuck hold down on the square stop button on the DVD side as well as the up on the channel up on the DVD side this will cause it to eject itself. if it comes to it and still wont eject look to manually take it out and press eject while holding open the front, you can put a peice of tape on the front of the DVD door tray to open it. lok for the left side and you will see 2 white poles gently press these down and it will quickly eject.

ive had this in the work shop befor the cogs can come lose inside the machine if your handy with a screw driver unplug from the mains and take the top of the machine and see if anything has come lose, 50% of the time you can fix this yourself if not you would have to contact panasonic and get them to send a engineer out to you.

DVD door will not open

That is a problem with those units not all but still a problem, the fuse in the dvd recorder has failed unless you can repair surface mount components I suggest you take it to someone who can, the part that failed is marked with an N on the underside of the dvd recorder there are two of them so make sure which one is bad.

http://www.altex.com/product_info.php?products_id=9207 here is a link to a audio / video switch box you need one of these make sure it has several audio video in and at least one audio/video out
hook all you rca1.gif cables up to the audio/video in from the cable box, tv, and dvd/vcr combo then out to the surround sound youll also need to get some rca cable splitters for the out so you can run it back to the audio/video in to the tv as well as the surround sound here is alink to what they look like
http://www.altex.com/product_info.php?cPath=344&products_id=6201
youll need thre of these of course when hooking it up dont pay attention to the color on these just the ones from the tv and surround sound and thats it your done it will all work if you want it to were you dont have to get up and push a button everytime most of them if you push all the buttons in at one time theyll stay like that
