Horizontal colored lines through grayscale printed photos

I recently had my printer cleaned and replaced the cartridges. I deep cleaned the unit, and the test page prints perfectly. Unfortunately, when I print 4 x 6 prints of photos on glossy paper, I get horizontal green and red lines through the bottom of the picture. I'm sure this is some sort of maintenance issue. Anyone have any suggestions.

Thanks,

George

Hi George,

It sound's like an ink-feed issue:

1) Dirty heads, even after cleaning
2) No-ink or poor quality ink
3) Damaged head: some are part of the cartridge, some are not
4) Air bubbles in ink

The test page is typically not as hi-res nor as saturated as a
photo print. The hi-res photo puts the greatest demand on the print head.

The color lines you see are actually lines of missing color,
where the head has failed to deposit ink, so one or two primary
colors are missing from the complete picture.

For example missing yellow will make a blue line.
Missing magenta will make a green line
Missing cyan will make a red line.... etc..

Clean the heads again and again, print again and again,
hoping to flush the system.

BUT, keep in mind that cleaning wastes huge amounts of
ink and tiny little cartridges of ink cost more than many new printers.

I have a Canon PIXMA MP250, and it's printing black and faded lines alternatively. (one line black, one line faded black...), sometimes involve blue too.. Anyone can help?

First, are you running low on those ink colors? If not, possibly print cartridges need cleaning. If printer has separate print heads, they made need cleaning.
Lastly, print head(s) may need replacement.

The color is not printing correctly. Things are coming out mostly pink or yellow. I tried the MAINTENANCE tab. The nozzle check showed that the top section (PGBK) looked good. The second section (C)...

The printhead has either become too clogged to flush out with with the internal cleaning operation (which uses a LOT of ink), OR, the nozzles are not firing. If after several cleaning operations there is still no significant improvement, you will need to replace the print head. I see this frequently with Canon and Epson, and Brother inkjet printers. Usually, it is due to leaving the printer idle for too long, or removing a cartridge and not replacing it right away. The air gets to the residual puddle of ink in the head and dries it.

You can find the replacement print head by Google searching "MP830 print head". Prices can vary from around $70 - $90. Changing it out is fairly simple. You only need to lift a lever that holds the head in place. Make certain that it is squarely seated, and then run a few pages of a color document, or do a couple of standard cleaning operations to "prime" the head.

Make sure the hed is NEW and not used or "refurbished". Here is one source on eBay that sells it for $78.00:

Printed pages have blank lines in the print for the red, blue and yellow colors. Have tried cleaning and deep cleaning several times. No change.

If cartridge is good, prime and allign, remove cartridge and clean copper contacts with contact cleaner, if all fails replace printer.

Color toner used up even though I selected grayscale

Selecting grayscale only will also make use of your color. when u select grayscale, look under the print options and select black cartridge only and for more economic printing, use fast draft or draft printing.

Horizontal lines through my printed photos

Are you sure your ink is not on the verge of finishing? Try changing the colour ink and print again. Sometimes I take the cartridge out, shake the ink down just in the same flashing motion as I do my pen, then replace it. You may try that.

#5 black ink cartridge skips through the middle occasionally

Replacing the print head
The print head may need replacing if, after all print head and ink tank troubleshooting has been performed:

  • The nozzle test appears broken or to have horizontal white streaks.
  • One or more of the colors is missing from the Nozzle Test.
  • The colors are incorrect on the Nozzle Test.
  • A print head error is indicated on the unit.
  • The printer powers off when the print head is installed.
I hope it helps!!!
