Top load washing maching does not complete the cycle

My top load washing machine does not complete a washing cycle or rather it has trouble getting past the first cycle. If I go straight to the spin dry cycle for instance, it starts but it just does not sound right and can's seem to complete or go through the process. Hope you can help me.

I am taking this as a machine with a timer knob. If so, you may have to advance the timer manually to get it to go. You may have stumbled onto a slightly dead spot on the timer. I think I would just leave the lid up next time. That will stop everything and give you the soak time you so desire.

try turning the mach off while it is spinning and filling.if it continues to fill or drip heavy, the mixing valve is not closing completely and needs to be replaced.if the water stops when the mach is turned off, there is a problem with the pressure switch.

the timer motor is most likly bad it is mounted on the back of the timer itself and advances the timer thru each cycle. you can check power to it (115vac) on the 2 black wire coming out of it

Spin cycle trouble

possibly a segment has raised on the motor armature or a faulty motor brush. pop off the belt and put it into a spin cycle to see if you still hear the noise- if so the fault is with the motor as the drum will be still. any scraping sounds in the drum may be a lost bra wire.
