When you turn on the system, press F2...and go into setup...there's an option about 1/3 of way down, for looking at your drives..

if they are not listed there, then it's possible that mobo is shot, or the bios is majorly corrupted.

neither of those are particularly attractive

No cd rom recognising in hp dv9700

In device manager, delete something like a USB device and perform a hardware scan with the menu item and it will detect the optical drive if its running ok. Then you can upgrade the driver for motherboard or the cdrom if exists on their web site. If the issue persists, check BIOS and see whether it is disabled in any way before you try to disassemble it and tighten the cable connections or try that cdrom on other machines.

My cddvdrw drive door won't open to install a disc

Hi !

If your CDROM drive is not opening, try to push paper clip in the pin hole above the CDROM. This pinhole is use to eject the CDROM drive.

Good Luck

Try pushing the drive in the notebook and if the
drive exists outside the notebook, try pushing all the leads in the drive.
The first on worked with mine.

Dvd drive no longer plays dvds on emachines T3410

When the CD/Dvd Drive becomes old the Optical Lense is not strong enought to read DVD because DVD is more dense than CD track. You can Try to clean the lense. There are lense cleaner available on the market.

Emachines desktop Wont boot.

A simple and effective task (well most of the time) is to reseat components on the motherboard. This can include unplugging the components, including but not limited to:

Hard Drive and Optical Drive Cables
IDE/SATA Connectors
System Ram
AGP / PCI / PCI-E add in cards

Note - Never mess with the processor unless you feel qualified to do so.

If after reseating all the components, the computer still does not boot, try setting in your BIOS to start up from the CDROM and insert your recovery disc into the drive and see if the recovery detects the drive. If it does, its most likely the boot header in the file system has gone kaput. You could attempt a re-installation of Windows by choosing the repair option, however, this is a last resort thing, and if you cannot do this either, then you might be in the market for a new computer.

When a new computer is bought, you might want to buy an external USB Powered enclosure for your hard drive so you can plug it into the new tower and recover all of your documents.

I know how the failing computer feeling feels like........ So good luck!
