When you turn on the system, press F2...and go into setup...there's an option about 1/3 of way down, for looking at your drives..

if they are not listed there, then it's possible that mobo is shot, or the bios is majorly corrupted.

neither of those are particularly attractive

Hi !

If your CDROM drive is not opening, try to push paper clip in the pin hole above the CDROM. This pinhole is use to eject the CDROM drive.

Good Luck

Does this have a cdrom?

YES, it has a 48x CD ROM drive.

It is not a burner.

You can play music read data from the CD, but you cannot burn CD's or DVD's.

Emachines desktop Wont boot.

A simple and effective task (well most of the time) is to reseat components on the motherboard. This can include unplugging the components, including but not limited to:

Hard Drive and Optical Drive Cables
IDE/SATA Connectors
System Ram
AGP / PCI / PCI-E add in cards

Note - Never mess with the processor unless you feel qualified to do so.

If after reseating all the components, the computer still does not boot, try setting in your BIOS to start up from the CDROM and insert your recovery disc into the drive and see if the recovery detects the drive. If it does, its most likely the boot header in the file system has gone kaput. You could attempt a re-installation of Windows by choosing the repair option, however, this is a last resort thing, and if you cannot do this either, then you might be in the market for a new computer.

When a new computer is bought, you might want to buy an external USB Powered enclosure for your hard drive so you can plug it into the new tower and recover all of your documents.

I know how the failing computer feeling feels like........ So good luck!

Emachines desktop

Could be a sign of hard drive trouble or may need to reload the Operating System. Back up your data and do a system recovery with the cds the machine came with. That will erase hard drive and reload Windows. If still takes a long time to load chances are it is a hard drive starting to fail.

Hope this helps!
