SOURCE: Motor spins, shaft does not...

sounds like the cable has broke inside the tube or it popped out of place. loosen the bolt on the motor casing holding the tube and separate the two pieces and pull the cable out. Should be a square at each end of cable.. if not post again

SOURCE: Black & Decker gh1000 trimmer head not spinning

The same thing happened to me. You either have a ruined belt pulley, or, hopefully, the belt burned out. Belts are easy to find online, but the housing is tricky to remove - see other posts.

I finally got it the plastic housing apart on my trimmer (there is one screw hidden under the label), only to find a total meltdown. The plastic pulley is ruined, and the only way to get it replaced is to buy a new motor (the most expensive part).

If your trimmer is no longer under warranty, then you can get a refurbished gh1000 for the price a new motor unit.

If you have the model # NST2018 then the only thing wrong is that a .30 cent retainer clip at the upper end of the spindle shaft is missing. A local hardware store should have one that will work. There should be a thin washer that will go between the sleeve bearing and the retainer clip that will be inside the housing as well.

Trimmer head won't rotate

Usually this is a clutch problem, the clutch is under the drum and when it engages turns the drum which turns the drive shaft which turns the trimmer head. If the drum is not turning than it is the clutch, if the clutch is turning the drive shaft could be broke, if the drive shaft is not broke than the problem would be in the gears of the trimmer head.

Stihl fs 55r head won't turn

Check drive shaft. Some models have a flexible cable drive shaft that is prone to breaking. also make sure the drive shaft is engaged in the clutch drum and in the gear head end.

I have ryobi rlt 30 strimmer and the shaft seems to be turning but the head has not got enough power in the shaft to turn the head and it all so seems to be vibrating where the shaft can be joined together...

For starters, check the condition of the LOWER flex- shaft.Remove the LOWER from the upper shaft, and while turning the string head, see if the top end of the flex shaft turns also. I think your unit has a clutch which makes diagnosing the flex shaft in the UPPER shaft housing (the one attatched to motor) a lot more difficult. If the upper flex-shaft is clutched, it WILL NOT turn when turning over the engine (unless the clutch is bad or has malfunctioned; which is rare). To inspect the UPPER flex-shaft, you will have to do a dissassembly (partial) at the motor housing cover in the front to pull the upper shaft out to inspect it. To get it all the way out to look at it, you will have to remove the throttle cable from the arm on the carb and disconnect the STOP switch wires going to the coil (located UNDER the front motor housing cover). Post back with what you find. Wish I was there to help.

remove shaft from power head check to see if drive shaft end is square if ok grab drive cable with pliers and try to turn head while holding pliers to make sure other end of cable and gear box are ok if so may have broke spring in clutch. remove plastic cover from engine you will see clutch bell remove spark plug stick piece of rope in hole to stop piston from moving where cable would go in bell there is a screw that holds bell on either torx or allen remove screw and take bell off there will be 2 shoes ans 2 springs that hold shoes togeather end of springs usually break where they hook in to shoe hope this helps

The trimmer head stopped turning What could be wrong

here is web site for parts

http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=husqvarna&mn=225+L+%281994-06%29

almost sounds like the driving drum engagement end has rounded off or the end of drive shaft broke off at either end , or the gear head end is broken / damaged

have a look at the splines on the output shaft on the gear head , check the plate that engages those splines too

physicaly take off the tube / shaft assy from power head and check drum and clutch rotating , check drive shaft end (s)

if ok refit tube / shaft assy ( make sure engaged properly)
tighten mount bolts - remove gear head from end of shaft, start motor and run see if shaft turns ok with some rev s if so
problem is in the gear head

check out website good site

cheers paul hope it helps

I believe what you need to do is remove the 3 screws on the trimmer head to remove the head from the lower shaft. After the head is off you can look down into where the shaft goes and be able to use some needlenose pliers or something of the sort to pull the broken part out.<!-- from fixya rte -->

Motor runs, but spool does not turn - is this fixable?

there is a shaft that goes to the head of the unit. The engine/ motor is not connected completely through.. you need to take apart the shaft to find out if it is just dislocated from the motor of if the shaft is broken or if the gear in the head of it is dammaged... goood luck
