Question about Bissell Vacuums

Open Question

There is a shaft that comes out of the pump of my Bissell 1623-1 Power Steamer with gears on it. The belt to the brush attaches to it. When I went to change the belt, the belt was fine but the gear itself with the small shaft on it was no longer attached and just dropped out. It looks like there might have been a bushing there, but no more. Any ideas?

SOURCE: I bought a Bissell 1695

Hello, I went to a local repair shop & was told that I may as well trash this Bissell 1695 model because very few parts were available & none were what I needed. Of course, I have to research things for myself & to try to keep from buying a new power steamer. Called Bissell Customer Service. CSR told me that the model was discontinued, none of the parts that I need are available & referred me to five authorized KY dealers (all of which are an hour or more driving time away). I am going to call all of them tomorrow & hope I can find a solution to one broken pivot arm that holds rotating brush roll. I found a helpful website that has a schematic and lists all parts that are available to order (& unavailable). There is also one service note regarding the parts that I need that says the entire base assembly with brush motor must be replaced because of a design change. Of course, it's not available either. Hope this helps some. The website is: hescoinc.com

Bissell power steamer brushes will not turn

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

There are a number of reasons why your brush roller is not turning. General maintenance to your vacuum is crucial and will help it work at peak performance.

First things first lets focus on the brush roller. Unplug the vacuum and turn it on its side. Look for any noticeable clumps of debris or hair strands that may be caught in the brush roller. Remove these obstructions, probably best to do so with a scissor if it's hair or long pieces of carpet fibers. After removing the debris try manually rotating the brush roller to uncover other hidden clogs. Another thing to take note of is the condition of the bristles on the roll itself. Are they loose or worn down? These are signs that your brush roller is in need of replacing.

While checking out your brush roll you might as well take a look at your vacuums belt. Your belt should be replaced about every three months. After regular usage, the belt will stretch out, lessening the tension on the brush roller. Lesser tension diminishes the brush roller's turn rate and speed. If the belt feels loose then it certainly is affecting your vacuums suction as well as your brush roll not moving at all.

Is there any reason the water won't come out?

You need to replace the pump belt, that is why the water is not dispensing and you need to replace the brush belt, that is why the brush isn't spinning. Here are the belts you need.

I have a Bissell PowerSteamer ClearView How do I

I removed the pump belt and the brush drive belt for replacement. I can see that the brush belt has little ridges to line up on the brush gear. Its the pump belt that I need help with. The flat belt goes over the shaft sticking out of the pump, but the other end appears to have a channel that the belt fits into and around. Only when I put it togeather that way the belt is off center, does the belt fit up over the rounded (pink) end before the channel or is it supposed to fit in the channel

The belt has broken and needs replaced. bissell uses a belt driven pump. ther ar two belts, one for the brush, and one for the pump. all can be replaced through the belt access on the left hand side of the machine.

First take off the belt cover on the side,
then turn it over, on the belt end of the brush roll, there is a red piece to hold in the brush roll, take out that screw and pull it off, the you can remove the end cap and cogged belt, Put the pump belt up thru the opening and around the bigger part of the pump pulley, grab the belt from the top side and put it around the motor shaft. Re-install the cogged belt, brush roll, cap and red lock.

Power brush on Green Bissell power steamer

Take off belt cover on the left side of the top cover, turn cleaner over, take out screw from red lock and remove, pull cap and brush roll out, unhook the cogged belt, then you can replace the pump thru that opening. Put belt over the pump pulley and stretched to go over the motor shaft. Then check the cogged belt and the cogged end of the pully to make sure that there are cogs, replace belt if there are cogss missing or belt is broke, if no cogs on the pulley, then you will have to replace the pump. Pulley only comes witht he pump.
