Depending on which BIOS you are using the method of getting into the BIOS will vary. Yours will be one of the following two-

BIOS Access Procedure 1

Boot the system up and hold down the‘Esc’ key, then press F1 when you get the check system message. You are then in the BIOS Setup and you can make your changes and save and exit by pressing the ‘End’ key.

BIOS Access Procedure 2

Boot the system up and hold down the ‘F2’ key. You are then in the BIOS Setup and you can make your changes and save and exit by selecting the 'Save Changes' option.

How do I unlock the Bios on an Acer ES-1 111M Laptop

To boot from a CD, DVD or USB device, make sure that the device has boot sequence priority over the hard drive.

BIOS Boot

BIOS (Basic Input Output Subsystem) is a programmable chip that controls how information is passed to various devices in the computer system. A typical method to access the BIOS settings screen is to press ESC, F1, F2, F8 or F10 during the boot sequence.
BIOS settings allow you to run a boot sequence from a floppy drive, a hard drive, a CD-ROM drive or an external device. You may configure the order that your computer searches these physical devices for the boot sequence.
The first device in the order list has the first boot priority. For example, to boot from a CD-ROM drive instead of a hard drive, place the CD-ROM drive ahead of the hard drive in priority.
Before you set boot priority for a USB device, plug the device into a USB port.
To specify the boot sequence:
  1. Start the computer and press ESC, F1, F2, F8 or F10 during the initial startup screen. Depending on the BIOS manufacturer, a menu may appear.
  2. Choose to enter BIOS setup. The BIOS setup utility page appears.
  3. Use the arrow keys to select the BOOT tab. System devices appear in order of priority.
  4. To give a CD or DVD drive boot sequence priority over the hard drive, move it to the first position in the list.
  5. To give a USB device boot sequence priority over the hard drive, do the following:
    • Move the hard drive device to the top of the boot sequence list.
    • Expand the hard drive device to display all hard drives.
    • Move the USB device to the top of the list of hard drives.
  6. Save and exit the BIOS setup utility.
  7. The computer will restart with the changed settings.

Boot Priority Options

Some computer manufacturers allow you to select the device that contains the boot sequence from a special device selection menu. The example below uses a Dell system board.
To set boot priority using a device selection menu:
  1. When the computer starts to boot up, after the manufacturer's ID screen, press F12 several times. The device selection menu appears.
  2. Use the up and down arrows to select CD-ROM or

Usb boot drive using bios

You may need to enable USB boot function in the BIOS or change the boot order. In some cases the USB boot function has to be forced from boot priority in the BIOS.

Or goto the boot menu when you first turn the PC on there should be an option to use USB Boot assuming the option is enabled in the BIOS already.

Bios boot screen comes up

Bios Boot Screen? OK, You don't boot from the Bios, the Bios has settings to let you control where to boot from the Hard Drive, the DvD/CD drive, the USB Port or a LAN (Local Area Network). So, what exactly is your screen showing when you press the Power Button to boot it?

  • Shut down your computer. Check your computer manual for the key stroke to get into your BIOS. Typically it is your "F1" or "F2" key.

  • Restart your computer.
  • Press the BIOS key that was indicated in your computer manual. Continue to press the key until the computer enters your BIOS.

  • Once entered in bios look for boot option and set primary boot device.
    Then restart your system

I want to reformat my computer, my question was how to first boot my cd rom to install...

    Start your computer.
When you see the 'Press DEL to enter BIOS SETUP mode", press the 'DEL' key.
Change the "boot-order" to put your CD-ROM as the "first" (highest-priority) boot-device.
    Save-and-exit from BIOS setup.
Insert the disk into the CD-ROM.
Your computer should boot from the disk in the CD-ROM.

Only booting after pressing f12 and select boot devise

    Hi,
You must change the boot sequence from your BIOS.
To do this, when your computer starts press F1 or F2 until you enter the bios setup menu. Usually on Toshiba is F1 or Esc key.
Now that you are in the BIOS, you must locate the boot order section. Just go through every page until you see something like Boot Device, Boot Order, Boot Management, Boot Sequence, etc. (its different for each computer)
There, change the boot order to move the Hard Disk or DVD ROM in the top two items in the list.
Save your settings and exit the BIOS.
Your computer will restart and it should boot up normally.

    Won't boot

Under normal circumstances you do not need to boot into a drive to flash your BIOS. Normally you would take a dos boot floppy and the latest BIOS firmware and put them on a floppy, which is then inserted into the floppy drive before turning the computer on, and if the bios boot priority is set to boot from floppy before the harddrive, it will ask to boot from the floppy, which allows you to flash the bios from a command line or text graphical interface.

*Note that you may be able to use a cd, but floppy is the oldschool way - if you could boot into an operating system you could use the modern methods which flash the bios while running an OS.

Your board comes with Q-Flash in the BIOS, which means you are able to log into the bios and flash it using this utility and by putting the BIOS firmware on a floppy and inserting it into the computer.

Please see Here for instructions and Here for the latest firmware.

If you cannot access the BIOS, meaning the BIOS is completely bricked, then you will need to buy a new motherboard. Unfortunately there is no way to fix a BIOS which is completely bricked.
